Not really. I think it's a win/win for him. Toney loses he can gloat about MMA being superior/all that bollocks. Toney wins he has freakshow money maker on his hands that he will milk for ever penny.

No way in hell Randy will stand and trade with JT.

I dont see how Toney beating Couture via KO or sub can ever be a winning situation for Dana and the UFC.

In fact the more I think about it Dana is proper determined that JT gets a hiding that's why he has matched him with Randy. Randy with his Greco background will get the take down fropm the clinch which is really hard to defend. I suppose an ex boxer could just work on his sprawl for six months and be quite dangerous in MMA. But learning to defend against standing takedowns effectivley takes years.

You don't think Dana would milk it for every penny like he did with say Kimbo? Obviously in that case Kimbo didn't beat an established name and UFC favourite, but I doubt Dana would have signed Toney against a guy like Couture if he thought he stood to lose anything.

Not that it matters really, because I doubt Couture will keep it standing at all. He isn't stupid and will know what Toneys strengths are and negate them.

James Toney is no Kimbo. Kimbo was unique in that he was an internet sensation. Toney is for all intents and purposes somewhat of a household name who has been around boxing for decades. If he wins it catapults him to same place that Mercer was in after he KO'ed Sylvia.

Knowing Dana though if Toney does win it probably says somewhere in his contract that he has to face Carwin or JDS.

If Toney beats Randy, it will not look good and Dana White will be very embarassed as he openly admits to wanting to make an example of Toney. Toney is old, past it, fat and hasn't been dedicated to anything except food in the past 10 years.

Hopefully he can get in good enough shape and learn enough to perform.

This is clearly a loose loose for the UFC in my eyes. No one cares about seeing Toney in MMA/UFC. If Toney wins "O **** he KO'ed Couture!" If he looses so what.. Like you said Toney is fat old and way past his prime in boxing let alone MMA. Its a pointless fight with ZERO significance.

I assume he used Couture because he is older than Toney, so age won't be an excuse.

Nobody's fault but Toney's that he didn't take care of his fat lazy ass like Couture did.

Helps when your on hormone replacement therapy doesnt it.. Fact is Toney is an OLD boxer. He's had a 20 year career taking punches to the head. Couture has only been in MMA for just over half that. Either way the cards are clearly stacked in Couture's favor as its Couture sport. Surely even you can see that.

Having an elite combat discipline in your background is obviously an advantage when entering MMA. Only problem is boxing is punches to the head and body. At 41, it would maybe be better to enter MMA with a grappling discipline.
