I've always been a huge fan of boxing and have wanted to start training for a while to test myself and see what Ive got. The thing is I've just turned 20 and dont know if this is to late to start a career? I'm 6"5 but walk around about 160 with quite a big reach which would be quite awkward for opponents. Isit too late or do you think I should give it a go?
20's not too late at all, and at 6'5 160 you would have a good advantage. Find a gym nearby and check it out.
just get to a gym, im sure they have classes and/or 1 on 1. you wont regret it and you will definitely feel better about yourself, i know i did.
On a similar subject, I'm hoping to start next week- and maybe order some gear tonight. Are 16 oz gloves, wraps and boxing shorts enough to start with, or should I buy a cup and gum shield aswell? :admin A 6'5 middleweight??? That sounds like an unhealthy weight to me, but I'm sure you know best I'm 22 and plan on heading to a local gym next week, I'm going to ring up tomorrow. 20 isn't too old mate, this sort of thread comes up all the time
6.5 and 160 thats insane lol youll probably find youll put alot of muscle on when you start training seriously i went from 6 ft 11 st to 6 ft 12st but i was unhealthy at 11st and feel much better at 12 anyways thats beside the point . get to the gym and see what happens mate, its not exactly likely youll be world champ or anything but hey stranger things have happened. Your goal for now should be to get there get as fit as possible and soak up and absorb as much about the game as possible .....and ENJOY!!!:good
Cheers for the advice lads, Ive been training in muay thai for about 7 months and have a good bit of sparring under my belt but boxing is much more appealing to me so hopefully I find a decent gym and Ill give it everything ive got :good
its good youve got that grounding in MT aslong as you still adapt and learn boxing its very different! Theres a guy in our gym who done alot of MT and tbh isnt very good at boxing couldnt get the stance because MT was soo ingrained in him.
Yeah haha I can understand that. My MT instructor used to totally rip me to shreds for using a boxing stance, I dont know why I do it, maybe just the amount of boxing I watch.. It left me really open to a front leg kick, Brutal.
You won't need a gumshield/cup yet. If the trainers wants you to start sparring on your first day you should find a new gym.
