Edwin Valero leathered Oscar De La Hoya prior to his fight with Manny P. Gave him a massive shiner and was told to leave the gym. (can find sources on youtube)

The Mr V.I.P jokes are getting a bit boring now.

EDIT: They weren't even that funny to start with.

The old timers use to say, the gym tells a lot of lies. Sparring has to be looked at the right way and put in proper perspective and there are a lot of variables that need to be taken into consideration. The most important thing to take into consideration is fighters are less sharp at the beginning of a training camp than they are at the end. They are also working on certain things and experimenting in sparring, which is the purpose. Chris Eubank use to say if you're not being troubled in sparring, you're not getting the best out of it. I think people put far too much emphasis on sparring stories and it's a pet peeve of mine.

Having said that, some of the stories i've heard are Ishe Smith getting the better of Vargas in a couple of camps. Maurice Harris allegedly gave James Toney the business, Bernard Hopkins was apparently once dropped in sparring by Mike Dargan (take that with a extra pinch of sodium). But the best one i've heard is the stories about how some guy was absolutely battering Evander Holyfield before the Tyson fight. We know how that turned out.
