When matching up Thomas Herans with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Pernell Whitaker. The conventional wisdom is that Hearns is a bad styleistitc match up for both of them. He is notcibly taller and has longer arms, at 6′ 1″ and 78″
    Compared to Whitaker at 5′ 6″and 69″ and Mayweather at 5′ 8″ and 72″.

It seems that people are expecting Hearns to win by stoppage. It is not an unreasonable conclusion. At 147 Hearns had amazing punching power. At the weight he was 32-1 with 30 wins by stoppage.
Hearns doesn't have as good a resume at 147 his best wins are KO 3 Bruce Curry and KO 2 Pipino Cuevas.

Would you pick Thomas Hearns by 12 Round Decision over Pernell Whitaker and/or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

I think that he can decision both, and i'd say that he has a very good chance at knocking Mayweather out. I know that Mayweather has good defense, but Mosley and Judah were able to put him down, so I reckon that Hearns would land a monster right at least a few times during the 12 rounds.

He would beat both handily...He is a better class of fighter than Mayweather and holds to many physical advantages over Pea.

Hearns is a H2H nightmare at welterweight for just about everyone...Especially smaller, defensive minded fighters lacking fight changing power.

    Thats exactly it:yep

Tommy would chase Mayweather into the ropes from the 1st ring a ding, you can just see Tommy waving that left out straight as the range finder before dropping the right hand axe & demolishing Mayweather.....I recken Pea would riggle & waggle his way around for the duration but he'd be pretty beaten up at the end of 12 providing he dos'nt meet the fate that Mayweathers sure to meet:yep

I'd say he would outpoint either of them. If he felt they couldn't hurt him then who knows. At his explosive best he's a threat to anyone.

He should be a favourite over both, he's a lot bigger than Mayweather naturally. His style could make life hard for Whitaker and i'd favour him because of that, Whitaker is a better boxer though imo,

I honestly think the better question would be can either Pea or Mayweather win a decision against Hearns. To me, the answer would be unlikely. I think there's a good shot that these guys could take Hearns to a decision over 12 rounds. They're both excellent defensive fighters. I couldn't fathom Mayweather going into stalking mode ala Leonard to avoid being outpointed.

He'd stop both of them at 147. Pea would last longer.

terrible fight for both at welter, he has a huge reach and he could break down the 147 mayweather's defense from a distance. sweet pea would have a better chance if he kept his legs moving enough, but i still would favor tommy

people are also underestimating hearns' actual boxing ability, keep hearns-leonard I in mind when responding to this fight imo

Yeah, I'd probably have to go with Hearns. Welter weight is not the idea class for either Mayweather or Whitaker who had their best days in lower divisions. Hearns had too much size and power at this level, and was in his early to mid 20's when fighting in it.

Both would lose to Hearns....however, the only legitimate question is Hearns/Whitaker, as we all know Floyd would never fight Hearns, NEVER....so Hearns already has that going for him.

I voted KO, but probably should have voted that he could only decision Pea. Honestly, I think Mayweather is too good at making adjustments (and Hearns was nearly equally poor at it), and that he would have found a way to take over the second half of the fight.

yeah, both mayweatehr and whitaker could very well survive due to their defensive abilties but they would definately get outpointed. neither man has the type of power to threaten hearns and as previously stated by many of you, they are both at a significant size disadvantage.

Hearns and Leonard were tops at 147 to 154 pounds....... DLH, Whitaker, Trinidad & Vargas were a clear step below......
