Imagine the prime Motor City Cobra fighting at 147 - 154 in the age of Oscar, Tito, Shane, Vargas, Ike, Forrest and Mayorga .. Some guys get freer rides by the timing of history than others ... if Heans did not come along alongside a prime Leonard but against these guys I feel he would be rated even higher than he is today ... I feel Hearns beats every one of them ...
Well Hearns would likely be the best, but i don't see him going unbeaten in an actual era of fighting those guys, regardless of whether i'd pick him in one off type hypothetical match-ups.
They would be such good fights to watch. He beats them all. But i cannot pick who would be competitive and who would be obliterated. All entertaining fights, either way. Mosley has the best chance of KOing him. I feel any other outcome not in Hearns favour, is less likely than Mosley KOing him
Yeah, it could happen i think, i wouldn't bet on it personally though. I've always felt Trinidad's chances are better than how he always gets completely shrugged off on this forum, but that's just me. At 147 though,
Hearns would beat most but he wouldn't go undefeated, people just overrate him cuz he was in the fab 4 era. People act like robinson and leonard are the only welterweights that can beat him.
He beats all these guys IMO. He blew away Cuevas and Duran, beat a Benitez who was on a roll at JM, lost epics to Hagler and Leonard. Throw in the disputed draw with Leonard if you like. How is that overrated? Steel sharpens steel. I think there are about 10-15 fighters with a better chance of beating Tommy than the best fighters on that list (Hoya, Mosley, Trinidad).
I agree. Hearns brutalizes all of these guys. Tito, Shane and Oscar all have puncher's chances mind you, Hearns at ww really did have poor punch resistance IMO, a fact which is often downplayed because of what an admirable warrior and brilliant fighter Tommy was, but ultimately I'd back him to scythe them all down before they got to him.
Hearns doesn;t have a great defence at 147 imo, but none of these guys are great inside men, or great enough at closing the distance for the job imo. Hearns could be wild at 147 though and that's the only reason i'd give Tito some kind of chance, countering with something over the top of a Hearns body attack or something like that. I reckon Hearns would end up beating on Mosley.
Hearns' power trumps Tito's, and he's a better boxer too. Tito's stalking style does not bode well for him in my eyes. I think Mosely would have the best chance of the era, but I wouldn't bet on it.
They all have a good chance of beating him. Hearns was hot and cold and very over-rated. Too many jock-sniffers obsess over his delicious ectomorphic physique and simpleton boxing skills. In the end, he lacked a certain grit and stability. I certainly think Jose Luis Lopez blows his the **** out.
Although I'd pick HEarns to beat them all head to head, I don't see him going undefeated. His chin/defense were too shakey and I do have questions of his stamina down the stretch. Hearns inside game isn't too hot either.
