To people who say that the athletes are so much better today. True .... in football. Those guys carry on average about 30lbs of muscle more than they use to. A cut 147 is a cut 147 and Leonard and Hearns are more natural welters they would be much heavier come fight night. They would mop the floor with pumped up lightweights Floyd and Manny.

Thomas Hearns KO`s Pac in two, then PBF in 4. He had too much everything for both of them. He had that freakish height and reach, and insane power. Mosely hurt PBF,can you even fathom `Hitman` letting him of the hook once he hurt him??? And Mosely`s power is not in the same class as Hearns. Onto Pacman. Herans would walk right to him, and the, run him over. He`d catch Pac leaping ( he leaps in with his punches) with his blistering right cross, fight over. PBF lasts longer because he is better defensively. The reason that SRL was able to get by Hearns, fantastic chin, great body puncer, speed, and a tremendous will to win. SRL does everything PBF does except with more power, and much more tenacity. He`d stop PBF late. SRL would also stop Pacman. pacmna can be outboxed, (see Morales, who is not in SRL`s class) And I feel that SRL would impose himself on Pacman, and that his heavy quick combinations would hurt Pac. As for todays athletes, we are NOT talking about 50 yrs ago. These guys could go 15 if needed to.I don`t even think that PBF would even put ink on the paper and sign to fight either. I think Pac has the heart, but. He would be way too small for Hearns, and SRL is a totally different monster...

I ****ing hate Leonard's guts more than any fighter that I've ever paid attention to,but he's the best welter I've ever seen in my lifetime. And Tommy is right there with him as far as greatness is concerned.I agree with Steward.

I think it's interesting to note that most people consider Leonard a top 3 welterweight and Hearns a top 10.

That in itself speaks volumes to the accuracy of what Emanuel said.

Nobody considers Pacquiao or Floyd a top 10 welterweight and I doubt either of them can really do anything at this point to capture that distinction.

Is there a competition going on that I'm unaware of, where the idea is to submit the most ridiculous post ever, whilst attempting to pass it off as being serious?

Manny and Floyd are great in their own right, and perhaps would make it very competitive which I am sure, but both Hearns and Leonard had the speed to compete with Floyd or Manny and had the power and size to back it up. Does anyone here think Clottey would of gone 12 rounds with Hearns? Or Leonard, with his rapid fire combinations and one punch power would of let Floyd off the hook if it was him and not Mosley that had Floyd doing the futterwacken? What is this bull**** people are coming up with "modern technology" having an advantage over fighters 20-30 yrs ago? Steroids don't guarantee greatness I can tell you that much unless you want to fall for the hype what many fighters today are known for.

All 4 are great fighters and to say that Tommy and Ray are superior fighters to Pacquiao and Mayweather is a bit of a slap in the face to Pac and May. You should just basically put all four of them in the same class as ATG fighters for what they accomplished in the ring.

Head to head, I would favor SRL and The Hitman to beat Pac and May, but that's just an opinion and who knows what could have happened in the ring. I'm sure they would have been close, competitive fights and to say that one fighter would have dominated another is ridiculous.

exactly. floyd could knock out valuev and people would still be talking about how much greater hearns was because he was tall. and how SRL was invincible like God. i agree that there is too much nostalgia and old people acting like floyd and pac have no chance

Sidenote: Same Emmanuel Steward said that Calzaghe would have been competitive in any era of Middleweight through to Super Middleweight and had gifts that could not be taught. Same Manny Steward said he thought Calzaghe would have beaten RJJ had they fought earlier.

And of interesting note, Sugar Ray Leonard also said Calzaghe was an elite fighter and as good as anyone he had seen.

Why I bring this up? Because it seems funny that people only rate what Manny Steward says when it suits them and forget the other statements he's made.
