Hopkins wasnt a legend or known as anything special when Jones beat him, just a contender who lost his debut.
The Toney win was a good SMW win but Toney didnt have the best SMW resume (thats not his whole resume, by the way) and was supposedly weight drained, though I take nothing away from Jones if that was the case as Toney agreed to the fight and was champ who made weight

Your right its not a coincidence. Hopkins wouldnt fight Joe earlier in his career and Jones wanted big money, but at the end of the day they were fighting in 3 different divisions.
Still Joe beat Hopkins when he was Ring LHW champ. Who was Joe meant to go up to LHW to face? He went up and beat the champ after cleaning out the SMW division, and Jones was still a Ring top 10 rated fighter. After Joe beat Hopkins, Hopkins went on to score one of his biggest wins

Some victories are more impressive looking back 10 years down the road than they seem at the time.

Hopkins may not have been huge at the time, but he was a very good fighter that went on to have one of the greatest middleweight reigns of all time after losing to Jones. Great win for Jones in hindsight. Much better than Calzaghe's victory over Jones you justify by Roy being "Ring top 10" despite not winning a meaningful fight since 03.

Thats right, Hopkins wasnt a great win for Jones when it happend, but is thought as one now, for what Hopkins went on to do. But it took a while to become a good win, because in Hopkins 2nd title attempt he got put down twice and only got a draw.
Jones Ring ranking was from beating undefeated Hanshaw who was Ring rated when Jones beat him
Your right in saying winners dont get credit, happens all the time in this sport.
I couldnt see Jones easily beating Calzaghe, or beating him. Except for J Ruiz, I dont see a fighter on Jones resume that Calzaghe wouldnt beat, but then on the same note except for maybe Eubank, I dont see anyone on Calzaghes resume that a prime Jones wouldnt have beaten.
When do you feel Jones legs were gone in his career? When he came down from HW? After he lost?

So as said, we dont know when Jones was using now, and when he wasnt, particularly as he was aloud to get away with it.
Please explain why you think ripped fuel J Jnr would have won, because he didnt when they fought later in their careers

Both fighters had moments in their careers, but I dont think Roy would have liked Joes style. When Jones fought Griffin the first time, Jones was having trouble with the style, but if the bigger stronger, harder punching Calzaghe was walking Jones back like that, Joe would have been throwing fast hard combinations, and has a better chin than Griffin and better footwork. I dont think Jones would have dealt with the pressure and speed.
When Calzaghe and Jones fought, they were both past their best and Joe didnt beat Jones by blasting him out
