“I don't believe in a catch-weight if you're going to go to the next weight class. Fight the best in that weight class. Catch-weight is pathetic. Go the extra mile, gain the extra pounds... Roy Jones, Jr., James Toney, Sugar Ray Robinson and Sugar Ray Leonard have done it."

    More quotes:

"My delayed fights (Khan and Maidana) have given me incentive. I've been out of the ring too long."

"I'm weighing 149 right now so I am in good shape. I've been eating more than usual... The extra seven pounds allows me to eat a little more at my leisure."

I'm really not a fan of catchweights either, but unfortunately, it is what it is. I agree with Bradley's stance there.

That said, Desert Storm's been saying enough lately that it has me wondering if he might be overlooking Abregu, which would be a dangerous move in my book. He's done more talking prior to this fight than any other one since I've been following him. I don't know if it's Shaw simply putting words in his mouth or if he's treating Abregu as a mere stay busy opponent. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter, otherwise there could be an upset brewing.

Didnt S R Leonard also get a LHW to boil down to SMW so he could fight for a LHW title at SMW?

Roy Jones took Andro, a legal over the counter drug at that time.

James Toney though, he's a fat piece of slob who should of served at least a 2 year suspension the second time around.

I don't see a problem with catch weights. Assuming Hopkins in his prime fought Calzaghe. 160 would have favoured Hopkins, 168 would have favoured Calzaghe so why not just have it at a fair 164lbs? The weight divisions are only to create an even playing field and you can't get any fairer than splitting the weight between the two fighters.

It could be the case where every fight could be a catch weight in the future and I'd have no problem with that either. If the welterweight titled could be contested at 141, 142, 143-147, I don't see the problem. If two sides agree and think it suits them, why not?

Pssst...he thinks because you dislike Mayweather, you automatically love Pacquiao, thus, support catchweights 100%.

Pacquiao who has had 1 catchweight fight, after moving up...

Indeed. And if he got the chance for a fight against Pacquiao, Mayweather or even a bigger name like Khan, he would beg for a catchweight to make it happen.
