Can Thomas Hearns win a decision over Mayweather Jr. & Whitaker?

If he can lay a glove on Benitez he can lay a glove on Floyd and Pea, which means he wins on points or stoppage. The bottom line is he wins.

 

Yeah, just "find a way" to overcome lopsided physical disadvantages in pretty much every department, because it's as easy as that, right? Just like Leonard did?

Mayweather would have to cut Hearns' arms off to have a chance of winning this one - that's about the only successful mid-rounds adjustment I can see him making.

 

Floyd has made adjustments against whom? Zab Judah, Ricky Hatton, Jose Luis Castillo, an old DLH and an even older Mosley.

I think the fact that he needed to make adjustments to those foes is more worrying than it is an actual positive to draw upon.

Facing Hearns, he very well may not get a chance to adjust.

Both Pea and Floyd get comfortably outpointed at best.

 

The whole "adjustments" argument is usually just a smokescreen anyway.

Hearns adjusted in fights as much as any fighter. Take a look at the way he varies the trajectory of the right hand against Benitez and how he selectively employs the jab and movement in the later rounds of that one.

 

Agreed. I was more impressed with Hearns' adjustment against Leonard (going from stalker to boxer once hurt) than any adjustment Floyd has made - the result of Hearns-Leonard notwithstanding.

 

exactly, people are thinking that mayweather and sweet pea will overwhelmingly outbox hearns and that makes no sense given the reach advantage and tommy's skill. against leonard he showed he can box with boxers incredibly well and that can't be ignored

 

I feel this is a far worse fight for Whitaker than it is Mayweather. Whitaker would be on his bike and lose every single round he lasted, i feel. Mayweather may have some success in the pocket, but only for so long. Hearns will catch him and knock him dead eventually.

They get their dues anyway, but you really needed to see their careers unfolding to appreciate how superior they were. You just can't beat the Fab Three of the 80's. They can only beat each otther.

People are also forgetting how insanely fast Tommy was. Its not like he JUST had height, reach, and power, and a jab, and boxing skills, he also was fast as hell and could punch his ass off. His chin wasnt the best Floyd and Pea werent exactly the type of guys to test that. Lets also not forget that in several fights at 147 Pea wasnt exactly stellar (IMO) and frankly, as far as Im concerned neither is Floyd.

 

I wish this was multijple choice cause im sure he would decision both, and he is capable of also knocking out either of those guys.

Hearns stops Floyd, perhaps early. Pernell lasts all 12 or 15, but loses handily.

 

Hearns was one of the fastest fighters ever.
