Corrie Sanders? God he is so overrated. Jones would have outclassed and humiliated the old out of shape golfer.

Both Tiger and Torres moved up from MW.

Most people thought Torres won the second fight.

Griffith beat Tiger by just outboxing him (which is part of boxing).

Griffith vs Hurricane Carter (non-title) was not competitive and I don't think Griffith sought a rematch.

Sam Langford is the perfect example here. Deadly ko artist at heavyweight, struggled to Ko fighters and regularly (well by his standards) lost to lighter fighters.

I think Archie Moore would disagree with title of this thread...

Moore had that special diet..... can't remember what you called it....that allowed him to gain and lose up to 20 lbs w/o affecting his abilities.

he would go up to heavy and fight...then come back down to LtHvy and defend his title.

    Moore was unique.

I'll throw out a mention for Charlie Mitchell, since he hasn't gotten one yet. Admittedly fought in a far inferior area scientifically, but in some ways that makes it all the more impressive that he was able to beat the giants of his day, given the ruffian rules of the era, with the sweet science. Same goes for the original, Daniel Mendoza.

Not to derail the thread but a guy who had 14 successful championship defenses (most as the ONLY champion) is a great championship fighter. A guy who only lost three times and defeated all in returns within his first few years of his career displays the best of championship quality.

Scoff all you will. It's not really even worth acknowledging... or maybe you are that old bitterman, Gil Clancy.

But not to Itrimariti...this thing he has against Monzon has gone neurotic/obsessive already.

Nevertheless LH, they were all cases of a good little man beating a good big man...10 lb weight advantage that Tiger had...and the obviously bigger Torres...
