Very happy Jake Shields has decided decided to take on the UFC @170 , it is his real weight class , look forward to seeing the man in action !!! At a guess his first opponent will be Kampman
tbh he fits in with the ufc ww divison...koscheck, fitch, gsp, matt hughes....only Alvez is a good exciting. the next level down is full of exciting fighters though.
Apart from Fitch....hes only ever been boring GSP hasnt been fun since he got stopped koscheck Only exicting when he decides to strike (which normally means he loses) hughes has only started being good to watch as he has started to fade too...his last fight was beyond horrible
Fitch/GSP was a great albeit one sided fight. How Fitch was never stopped is beyond me. Also Hughes has been in some great fights; the Trigg II, Penn II, Newton I, and GSP fights were all very exciting.
You guys really have no business bashing Hughes as far as how entertaining he is/was. Hughes was a dick, but he was incredibly entertaining. He blended wrestling, gnp and subs better than ANY wrestler I have ever seen. He really was something special. I used to bash him because of his personality, but he really was great. GSP attempts subs Kos, well he pulls some ****ing bull**** in his fights, and deserves to be neutered, but he is a good fighter who should be great. Many of his fights end in stoppage. Shields is gonna be one boring mother****er. What is irksome about guys like Kos and Shields is the level of wrestling they possess, and knowing they are very capable of controlling fights on the ground via true lay n pray. Problem with Shields is, this is what he actually does. I think he gnp's half heartedly, he lands a lot but never goes for the kill which is just ****ing odd.
I think Shields is being bashed hard here , somewhat unfairly , i like the way people bang the martial arts drum on this forum and ignore the talents of a true martial artist like Shields , the man is a Cesar Gracie black belt & a 2 time all American wrestler :deal , has a solid record of 30 - 4 & 1 , has some good wins in MMA and like it or not holds a W over Dan Henderson , we aint talking about no bum here guys come on ......................... For me Shields hasnt done a lot to suggest he can rise to the top of the 170 lb division , and i felt his champion status in SF was a little bit of a joke considering the holes in his stand up :deal But what Shields has done is consistantly rise to the occasion and pull off good wins against solid opponents (recently) , who's to say he cant be a player @70 in the UFC , plus i met him in person after the TUF season 11 finale @ the Palms in Vegas , anyway he's being treated unfairly here fella's ...................
