Yep. In his prime, boxed beautifully, KOd the favorite that was blasting through everyone. I dont buy that "welterweight" excuse, he proved himself as a legit middle against Joppy, he was a very big threat to anyone in that division.

I've always loved his performance against Glen Johnson. It was under the radar ofcourse, and less meaningful to many because Johnson lacks Trinidad's reputation, certainly at that time. But one might argue that beating a future LHW champ is more impressive than beating a former WW champ. Not saying that that's necessarily my opinion, but it could be argued.

And as far as the performance goes, Hopkins was amazing in that fight, displaying all the things he had in his physical prime, which many people who have all kinds of negative opinions about Hopkins' style have never bothered to look into. Beautiful snappy jabs, crisp combinations, high punch volume, just relentless and technically beautiful.

I agree that was prime Hopkins at his best against Johnson. He was relentless in that fight, it would have taken a very special fighter at his very best to beat Hopkins that night.

    Well there you go:good

Although ofcourse truth be told, it wasn't really a ko, it was a ref stoppage without Johnson having been down at any point in the fight. But still pretty damn impressive!

Well Tito was his biggest victory in terms of what it did for his career, that's very obvious. But the thread asks for the best performance, and that being the case, i'm sticking with the Johnson fight! Although the performance against Tito was very special too, ofcourse.

Johnson was a nobody at all at that time and losing a lot of fights after that. He didn't get his first good win until '03.

1 Tito (36yo vs. P4P#2 for undisputed MW championship, 1st and only KO of Tito)
2 Pavlik (43yo vs. P4P#5 / unbeaten undisputed MW champion, total shutout)
3 Tarver (41yo vs. P4P#8 / The Ring LHW champ Tarver, shutout)

I think these 3 should come as a pack for Hopkins' best as he was the underdog and the aging/old fighter in each one and came out masterfully. To be honest, I only favored him over Pavlik and never saw the other 2 results coming.
