not comparing the k bros to hop and may just saying you dont hear as much complaining about them doing minimal work to achieve the victory (well thats not true may gets alot of criticism but he plays the heel) they establish dominance over opponents being very selective with their aggression using different methods mayweather was very exiting at the lower weights, he was more willing to put combos together, I find his defence amazing too, I watch him to see someone even trouble him by making solid contact
-B-Hop is terribly boring these days, spoiler...and last year Vitali/Arreola was actually an epic beating, quite a bit more exciting than Mayweather/Marquez. -Wlad generally KOS his opponents regularly..Chambers, Thompson, Austin, and Brock were all down for the count. Byrd and Rahman were ref stoppages after they were down. Think Chageav and Brewster were the only recent corner retirements. -Nah, Povetkin is an offensive fighter. He'll push the action and likely be stopped...perhaps like the Brock fight.
For the most part they don't do minimal work, they will put combos together and step on the gas if they need to and mix it up (I don't mean slug it out, I mean vary up the punches/style). The K brothers do the same thing EVERY fight. Once you've seen one K brother fight you've seen them all. I can't blame them for it because it is clearly working very well for them, but they aren't going to get the casual American fan's attention by fighting the way they do and without stirring things up by talking some trash (which is how boring american fighters get attention).
I agree with the k bros it all up to thier opponent to create the drama, hopkins can pulled off an exiting fight a couple years ago with the pavlik fight. that was all him putting everything together:happy
Points: 1. The Klitschkos are not only safety first fighters, they are huge safety first fighters. I don't think the general public is all that turned on by and large by a big man beating up much smaller men. It also negates the skill factor somewhat. It is easy for a man inches taller and many pounds heavier to outjab an opponent and the public expects it. 2. The failure of the Klits to draw in the United States would seen to negate the "race is everything" to Americans argument I hear so much. 3. If foreign fighters do not draw in the United States, it is certainly a new development. Fitz, Carpentier, Firpo, Schmeling, and Johansson were all big draws in America. Carpentier seems to have been the sentimental favorite over Dempsey. Among the lighter fighters, Kid Chocolate, Marcel Cerdan, Kid Gavilan, Roberto Duran, etc, were very popular in the US.
Boxing is dead on American TV (in a nationwide sense). I hate staying up on a Friday night watching boxing (I normally record it, but I'd rather watch it live). I hate shelling out $50 for half-assed PPVs. I can't stand the fact we have to be so damn underground. I just wish boxing had it's fair treatment, but then again you can probably argue that it is their own fault.
It absolutely is boxing's own fault. PPV and BS cards are what got boxing to where it is today, not the fans. If the fights would be on main stream channels and on during reasonable hours then it would be as big as ever. But currently 9 out of 10 fights that even might be good are a main event $50 PPV, which the average person is not willing to pay. One of the reasons boxing started to lose popularity was because of all of the PPV BS with crappy cards. Before there were great fights that you could see for free.
99% of televised boxing is crap. That's why it's not getting the share of the air time it used to get.
The Klitschko's have a contract with the German channel RTL. That's why ZDF doesn't broadcast their fights. But make no mistake, they have a shitload of viewers. And why shouldn't they; boxing is on free television in Germany, as it should be everywhere. Pay for ****ing view ruins things.
I think Povetkin has old school heart and guts. He will fight to win, and press on through adversity. This should be an entering match. HBO is too cheap to pay for it. Everyone who watches HBO boxing knows who Wlad is, and Povektin has been on HBO too.
