The reason Roberto Duran Quit

Well...we're focusing so much on what Leonard said rather than his actual accomplishment...I thought why not do it with Montreal too?

 

I'm serious brother...that guy in your avatar, great fighter, but he is overwhelmingly favored in here...the Classic supposedly being a hot spot for intelligent fight fans.

what makes you think foreman was lying? just because he was afraid, dosent he couldnt crush those guys. tyson use to say he was afraid before every fight, you know he won most of them. unless you biased, you can look at what leonard said and see what he was talking about. and its not to say his victory over hagler wasnt a great accomplishment, he was a heavy underdog.

 

It's about time some of the better posters in here started giving Duranimal some **** for being a **** then....god knows they would if the shoe was on the other foot and we had a Leonard fanatic in here who even dared give the man credit....someone like to remind me what the odds were ahead of his fight with Hagler? Who here bet money on Leonard? 12 rounds is why he won? He took advantage of a shot Hagler? He got a gift? Which one is it...or all three?

 

maybe you're just assuming that his accomplishment is being dismissed. beating both hagler and duran, regardless of the circumstances, were excellent victories and is the reason why hes an atg. nobody said it wasnt either, if that what you're thinking.

 

All the bias, both for and against Duran, and people calling each other out on him being overrated/underrated, has put a total dampener on us just being able to call him what he was though, one of the best to ever do it. And you know me Addie, there's no bias here, but the whole ****ing Duran being mentioned all the time with cynical comments on both sides of the fence is boring the **** out of me.

 

**** off with that **** Silver...."You're just imagining Leonard getting a raw deal". No...just no. I like Duran pretty much the same way I do Ray, but all I ever hear is all of these reasons as to why Leonard took advantage of Hagler? So what if he saw him perform badly against Mugabi...does that override all of Ray's circumstances? ...Of course it doesn't. People praise Duran for going the distance with Marvin...Leonard actually wins despite not fighting for three ****ing years and yet...poor Marvin was robbed.

 

What i'm saying, there's a probablity to the degree that convinces me that Foreman was dramatising that story, don't believe everything you hear, just analyse the fight.

 

Dude...it's 70/30 in favor of Duran on these boards. What gets me is...it's actually the really good posters that are always making excuses for the guy...

Yeah, i agree. I don't really know how to analyse something like that so i could be wrong though. Both men don't get full credit for their respective wins over one another and that's what primarliy annoys me, and don't even get me started on Douglas not getting his credit for Tyson

 

:rofl you sure you're not a devouted leonard fan. thats the problem with fans, they get sensitive then you speak the truth. leonard beating hagler was a agreat accomplishment, reagrdless of where both men were in their career, so why are you crying about leonard not getting his due. nobody said leonard was in his prime and hagler was washed up when they fought. so why are you getting so sensitve for?:think

 

On the classic forum...I don't think there's a close second to Duran...not when it comes to excuses. It wouldn't be a talking point if it was some numpty coming in here preaching all of this ****...but like I said, it's intelligent posters...educated people....informed fight fans.
