I don't think Barrera was inconsistent...I think he came up against the greatest fighter since Pernell Whitaker. :conf Barrera, if you ask most people, should have been undefeated from 1998-2003. He was 43-0 before his first defeat?
I do, Barrera was my favourite fighter in his prime, and it pissed me off that i never knew he was defo going to win but i always knew Morales would. Losing to Jones, then beating Morales (imo) and then losing to Morales (imo) and then getting demolished by Pac, i just was never sure. I understand your point in that there's no shame losing to Pac, but there's more to it, Barrera was a top fighter and i expected more than that performance, i was ****ing gutted. And then Morales beat Pac.
Addie, when he was fighting the shell of Johnny Tapia and Kevin Kelly, yes i was dam sure he was going to look great. I'm talking big fights here, i've made myself clear mate
There are no definite when you're facing undefeated, P4P rated opposition like Erik Morales and Naseem Hamed. A lot of great fighters didn't really have longer primes than 5 years...and Marco only really lost in his prime once...and Manny's just been awarded fighter of the decade, and is now capping fools up at Welterweight.
Were you sure Morales was going to beat Pacquiao? Were you sure he was going to beat Barrera in the rematch? How about the rubber match? Isn't that the nature of big fights? They are big fights because they are being contested by two extrodinary talents. People have paid big bucks to sit ringside at the MGM because they are intrigued...they don't know who is going to win? Barrera's biggest fights were against Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed, and Juan Manuel Marquez. He won the majority of them...and most of them whilst being the underdog.
Not at all:bart I had it 4-2-1 for Leonard if i recall but i'll go watch it again as a retrospective punishment for my evil past life.....
Yeah, and Morales went and beat the Pac that destroyed Barrera. Everything i've said still stands Addie. I'm not having it that he was not still a top fighter when Pac and Morales beat him (i had Morales winning the rematch), and even if he wasn't at his absolute peak, so what? My point that i feel he was inconsistent in big fights stands, and yes i'm factoring Junior Jones losses into that. Basically, post 242 and 243 explain all i have to say.
Sounds like you don't want to talk about it...fair enough. But I had Barrera winning the rematch...and so did Popkins...
Well my post history is testament to me always saying that i ALWAYS thought Morales was going to win, except when he fought Barrera, who always seemed to want to beat Morales so badly. Yes, i favoured Morales over Pac, and it blew my mind when Morales started to lose. You've got this going off on a tangent now Addie, we're defining inconsistency, i don;t see the big deal here. Refer to post 242.
You said Barrera was inconsistent and I said I don't think he is compared to other fighters from yesteryear. I had him beating Morales in 2002 and in 2000.
I wasn't comparing his inconsistency though, i was giving it as my only worry about him not beating a fighter i favour him over.
I scored it recently mate. I think I had Morales up by 2 points this time. 1st time I scored for MAB, 2nd time for Morales. I should probably watch it one last time to make up my mind for sure. It's a tricky one to score, don't you think?
Yeah, but I find it hard to believe that so many have Morales winning because they actually sat down and scored it round by round. It was a fight that could have gone either way, not a ****ing one sided drubbing like Bill Butcher seems to think it is.
