Leonard waited until Hagler was out of shape, rematched Duran when he knew Duran would be out of shape, fought Lalonde for the lightheavy title at a lighter weight etc....the same sort of tictics that Floyd is now using.

Now Leonard is a greater fighter than Floyd (who is still great) and has the better wins, Floyd is using Leonards blueprint for tipping the scales in his favour (but going overboard)

Both these guys are great fighters and I cannot see them being out classed by guys their size, a prime Leonard would of had a great battle with Hagler, I think he would of lost, but he would of given a great perfomance and I would of given him kudos for doing so. When judging Leonard I look at the Duran fight (1st) and can see how great he was, I don't care that he lost, when two great fighters are in the ring together, there has to be a loser (sadly).

    Fair enough.

I was meaning to talk to you about the first fight though, Gesta. I watched my DVD of it with a few Duran fans the other day and they had Leonard winning.

Nice to see the Classic Forum has been consumed by the General.

Only a matter of time, I suppose.

(the sound of me being less and less interested in the goings-on here)

Or, you could just post on a thread which hasn't been polluted by this vile poison, and not post on threads where the topic of discussion doesn't interest you?

Don't mind Seamus Popkins, this 'fella is even more self indulgent than you...he's a big believer in morbid self-attention...and is one depressed mother****er. I personally voted him as the most depressing ESBer some time last year...I had the blessing of everyone who had seen even one of his posts...

I cannot see how Leonard was winning myself, but it was a great fight.:happy:happy:happy

Leonard was fantasic vs Duran 1

Who do you think won Addie?

All I want is great fights, who wins and who loses, is not as important to me as a great fight. MAB vs Morales had three great (close) fights, those three fight do a lot for each man. I am starting to collect carrer sets, I bought MAB's carrer set and got to see Morales, Hamed, Pacman, JJM, Kelly etc.... If I get Floyd's who do I get, an old SSM\ Oscar, old and blown up JJM, Corrales (which is great) etc.... see what I mean.

I'm off now...stayed up about four hours longer than I wanted too...and I personally don't see anything wrong with bringing a little bit of humor and cuss words to the Classic...especially when the topic of discussion has already been exhausted of all it's content. Page 22...and it's about Duran quitting.

El Bujia and Popkins speak sense, I go on a 10 page rant about how I feel Leonard is a victim, and Pachilles, the voice of reason, brings it full circle...

    "He needed a poo".

    Adios.

    I hear you, brother.

I had Duran ahead by two points the last time I scored the first encounter, and I was only joking about me watching it with fans of Roberto. I was mocking something Duranimal said about how loads of Leonard fans had him losing the rematch up until the abrupt ending. I found it comical. Anyhow, a wonderfully engaging fight, Duran was masterful at enforcing his will on Leonard...a picture-book for subtle skills inside. I should re-score it again soon...maybe tomorrow.

I enjoy great, masterful performances too. I think Floyd's demolition job over Corrales certainly has replay value...it's an art...and as Popkins will soon tell you, he didn't even lose a round in this one. Anyway, I'm sure you'll love the MAB career set...he was consistently entertaining, and put punches together as well as any fighter during the last 20 years.

There is indeed a certain art to beating up someone who is so weight-drained he can't even throw a jab. :D
