I'm always surprized to see so many opinions based on race. So Floyd is hated more because he's black ? Race is such an issue for you Americans..... It just so happens that in boxing there aren't too many successful white Americans but if there were, being like Mayweather or Roy Jones, they would get the same treatment from non-Americans at least. Being hated comes with the territory of being on top, it's a pattern in this world unfortunately.
honestly i cant blame either fighter cuz i dunno whats goin on completely, neither does anyone here but im pretty sure pac doesnt do peds and fight should be 50/50 on purse cuz honestly they both make a killin and our both regarded as number one. in my opinion i do think floyd is a bit unsure tho
While I don't care for his attitude, I don't think he's a "coward" or necessarily afraid of Pacquiao or any fighter. I DO think he for once is facing (potentially) someone where it's not a foregone conclusion that he's going to win. Think back to the last time Floyd stepped into a ring against someone that you LEGITIMATELY thought (beyond fanboy reaction or anti-Floyd fans) that Floyd had a chance to get beat. That's not JUST a result of Floyd's being phenomenally gifted and talented a boxer, but a lot to do with his opponents being good fighters in their own right, but obviously not on Floyd's level. Whether that's because they're past their prime, shopworn or having to drop or jump up in weight, that's up for debate. But it's been a long time (and I don't believe it's ever happened at Welter) since Floyd faced a serious challenge to his perfect record. And I think that aspect bothers him because facing Manny is a legit threat to him. I think that is why he never faced some other fighters before. Not that he was afraid of them, but because he wasn't stepping into the ring with a foregone conclusion of victory as he has in his other fights. EDIT: and for the record I think Floyd would have beaten Cotto, Margo and Mosley back when everyone was clamoring for him to fight them. But whether HE believed it or not, I dunno.
It's not what Floyd does that doesn't give him credit, it's what he doesn't do. So no one is hatin on Floyd when no one is jealous. His accomplishments are hall of fame worthy, but his greatest wins were against opponents past their prime and probably the only ones that will be future hall of famers, Oscar, Mosley, and JMM. To be fair, you can say the same about Pacman vs. Barrera, Morales, even JMM, but at least he fought JMM at 130 not 144! Floyd is a great fighter, but I don't think he's the greatest of his generation until he beats Pac and then Martinez. He beats any of those then we'll see how great he really is.
Honestly, I wasn't sure he was going to get past Shane Mosely. Shane is a dangerous fighter man. If that would have been Berto, or Pac, it would have been one helluva night for both. Berto would lose to Shane...PERIOD. Pac, in all honesty, I think Pac would lose to Shane. Pac fights the type of fight Shane would love. If he went head to head like that with Shane, Shane would overpower Pac. Shane only has a problem with BOXERS; and Pac is no boxer. Pac is a BRAWLER. You can forget about Pac knocking Shane out; because Shane is NOT getting KO'ed by anyone. That fight would go the full 12, with Pac possibly winning a decision, or Pac would get knocked out. Many other people that I talked to thought Floyd stood a serious chance of losing against Mosely by knockout. There were alot of people picking Shane to win; and for a split moment in round 2, it looked like that was going to be a reality. Floyd is just so skilled that he adapted and pitched a shutout. I mean, look at how he tied up Shane when he was hurt? That **** was amazing. He got thoroughly buzzed by Shane in the 2nd, and came back from that like it wasn't ****. There were a few times where I thought Floyd had a serious test on his hands. Another one, although people may not agree, was indeed Juan Manuel Marquez. He may have been coming from a lower weight, but JMM is no joke. He is one of the most accurate punchers in the game, and is also a very intelligent fighter. He is also the man that really gave Pac a loss. Here was Floyd taking on a future HOF and another PFP after a damn near 2 year layoff. He toyed with this dude; the very same dude that gave Pac fits when the two fought. Floyd just has sublime skill, but he is not unbeatable. Shane almost had his ass out of there.
Exactly. The hatred that man gets is ridiculous. It really makes you mad sometimes. People can say what they want, but I wonder if it was Kelly Pavlik pitching shutouts and **** would he be getting called a damn coward? When Pavlik got his ass handed to him by Bernard Hopkins and people were still trying to attest to how good he was; and don't get me wrong, he is good. Hopkins is just a great fighter. I have seen Pavlik's past fights. He does have some degree of skill, but great he will NEVER be. Anybody with lateral movement will give Pavlik fits. He is like a damn poor man's Rocky Balboa and ****. I have just seen very few fighters generate the hatred that Roy Jones or Floyd does. And there is one common denominator that they both have in common; no make that two.
