may be off the mark, but what do people think of duran-leonard? that fight duran did a little bit of everything and it was all brilliant but he smoothered leonard and gave him no room. now, while duran is a better puncher overall, leonard had serious power and sting and hands of stone neutralized it

 

Duran was on him like a sticker but Leonard did have success and still looked good in defeat. I agree Duran did swarm him and was the better fighter that night. Overall, Duran was a clever fighter who was known best to fight in the inside.

 

Also TBH I don't think Basilio swarmed Robinson quite in the way people seem to think, certainly not Lamotta-style. Both fights were complete wars, arguably the finest ever, but Basilio was standing off Robinson a lot too and being selective about when he came inside, countering to a very high level.

one of my favorite fights of all time. the casting is perfect, mean psychotic panamanian street dog boxer punching swarmer vs the slick, black, american olympic hero with the smile on a wheaties box. Duran was at his very peak in that fight, and you can see his motivation throughout. I read Hands of Stone and Four Kings, and both books implied the pressure on him to beat Leonard not only on his personal principles but also for panama to an extent. He managed to rile SRL up before the fight, got him mad enough to brawl in the fight, and was in the perfect shape to do it. Definitely my favorite duran fight. his magnum opus. The sequel was the reversal of roles, SRL got inside HIS head and made him quit.

My first thought in this thread. Leonard I feel fought the role of a boxer-puncher as well.

 

Khaokor was more awkward fluidity; could just snap combos to head and body out of nowhere then be stand-offish with his odd guard. And the fight Moon did win was a phoney war.

Juan Diaz Vs Freitas? No class gap, Freitas wasn't awful and could whack. Diaz was all over him?
