Their situation and talks always remind me of how much power people could have to change things if they really wanted to. It's really just a decision away.

Boxing is a tough sport, so it demands lots of dedication, work and perseverance in order to be amongst the best in the world, therefore on one hand, I understand and accept the rewards (money) they get at some point. On the other hand, it's ridiculous to keep the sport hostage of so many good fights, just so they can constantly control what types of rewards they get and when they get them.

Boxing has too many organizations, a bit too many weight classes, it's not regularly on main stream television and has way too many PPV fights.

If there were fewer PPV fights such as 20 years ago and boxers had to constantly fight the next best opponent because there was only one possible champion, we most likely wouldn't get this Pacquiao-Mayweather scenario.

With only 1 champ per division needing to always fight the next best contender in line, would Pacquiao have won belts in 7 categories ? Would he be P4P #1 ?

Would Mayweather have won belts in 5 weight classes ? Could he afford to be as arrogant and controlling if money wasn't as accessible as it is ?

Let's face the truth, the main reason today's boxers become as popular with casual fans is because the marketing machine behind them is unprecedented. If Mike Tyson would have had 24/7 series, his popularity would have been insane !

Today's boxers are more than ever marketed into being stars, rather than truly being elevated to such levels only by their performances in the ring.

There's only one way to change this and it's to refuse the way things work. That means you need to stop buying their PPVs. If you want to see their fights, do so at local bars or on free internet streams.

NO MORE PPV PURCHASES IS STEP 1 TO START THE MUCH NEEDED CHANGES ASAP !!!

we really just kind of need to murder schaeffer, king, and arum

    there IS NO OTHER ANSWER

    but seriously

    -less frequent fighters
    -limited audiences for fights
    -stupid negotations bull****
-ridiculous cherrypicking of opponents for prospects
    -too many weights
    -too many belts

    killin the sport mayne

  3. Pacquiao has won 4 lineal titles, which is more than anybody else in the history of boxing. So I think it's safe to say he takes on the best. :good

The ones controlling the sport will never change their ways as long as it works...

Therefore the only way to make them at least listen to real fans..is stop buyin anything from them !!! There's no other way !

You can still watch boxing but do so in ways that'll hurt their earning potential !

I agree he's always willing to take on the best. That's how he is. The point is..fighters should go through a constant process in order to get in line for a lineal title. If that was the case, would Pacman have had the same opportunities in all weight classes, especially the bigger ones ?

In regards to Pacman, his true earning power, just like any other top notch fighter, came when he moved up. With only one champ per division and practically no PPV fights, would he have had the chance to fight for a lineal title at 140 lbs ? Would he have had the chance to attract so many people for a Cotto fight ? Same applies with Mayweather in his fights ....

Unless the TV money is there, it ain't happening.
Boxing has the upperhand over mma in potential earnings and if that changes, expect less guys doing the sweet science.

Sports are picked up by casual fans mainly when :

1- They're branded as being cool. (younger generations)
2- They are constantly in your face. (everyone)

Right now, boxing does very little to help itself on these 2 points.

The easiest way to have it back in everyone's view is main stream media, with fights on every weekend.

To get there...you need to say NO to most PPVs !

right, but the actual range of earnings is so ****ed up. beginnners and journeymen make terrible money in boxing, period. The system needs to be restructured so that people can make a good living boxing, period, and it's hard to do that unless you're a gatekeeper or a strap holder.

At least MMA has the right idea with one champ per weight class for people to identify with.

No they don't. MMA has like 4 or 5 different organizations. UFC, Strikeforce, and I think one on Versus and another on FSN, and hell there might be a couple of more I don't know of because I don't follow MMA.

Everyone knows the UFC is the true legit one. That's the point.

Just like there's also more than one Pro soccer or hockey league in North America but the MLS & the NHL are the legit ones.
