SOunds like it could of gone either way. The only fighter to soundly beat Ishe without any controversy is Jacobs but even he looked very bad doing so.
Guerrero won this fight pretty comfortably -- he fought a guy who's never been knocked down - or really hurt seriously in a fight --- Smith has his moments against Daniel Jacobs as well - who is another bright up and coming fighter...I thought Fernando showed a real warrior class and pedigree tonight - and was able to bang with a true veteran-banger...Smith is no walk-over. that said - I thought Guerrero expended too much energy in the first half of the fight ... his work-rate was unreal...it won him the fight - but there were a couple middle rounds where he was using up too many energy reserves - and Smith buzzed him once with a good right hook that rattled Guerrero's focus back...and he outboxed Smith to close out the fight. great fight - solid test for Fernando --- and he passed.
Ishe didn't get robbed, the fight was close. He could have edged it, could have been a draw, could have been Guerrero with a slight edge. My personal opinion is that it was a draw, had Guerrero leading 5 rounds to 2 with an extra point advantage due to the low blow deduction Ishe had, but Ishe stormed back with the knockdown at the end of Round 8 and won the last three rounds on my card to even it up. However, Ishe should have known that fighting the hot prospect he needed to bring it throughout the entire fight to win, and in the early going he failed to match Guerrero's pace. The thing that makes the fight look fishy is the 97-91 scorecard, particularly following some very questionable cards in the Shawn Porter fight. It was not a robbery though.
At best, it was a close fight that Smith might have won. If you scored every close round for Smith, he would have won 6 rounds. There were four clear Guerrero rounds (plus the deduction) and three clear Smith rounds (plus the knockdown). I had Guerrero winning 95-93. The 97-91 card was horrible and ridiculous, but it wasn't a robbery.
He IS better than Guerrero. IMO, Jacobs is a lot better than people give him credit for. Guerrero is fun and can be a long-time regional draw, but he'll probably need a little luck to win a title and is in the second tier of middleweight prospects. I can't imagine Jacobs not winning a title, and he's in the top tier of the prospects (along with Lemieux, Golovkin, N'Jikam and possibly Pirog and Korobov, who's looked like crap his last few fights and I'm about ready to downgrade to the second tier).
Please! I scored the fight narrowly for Smith, 95-93, but NO WAY was it a robbery. A couple of rounds different - and there were MANY close, debatable rounds - and Gurerrero wins. The judge's scores were WAY too wide, and in that sense it is unjust - but a case can be made for either guy winning.
I thought it could have gone either way by a point or two. Personally, I think Smith should have got the nod, but you had to know going into it that any close rounds were going to the undefeated fighter.
Dude, there were a couple rounds in the middle where Ishe did NOTHING. He has Joshua Clottey syndrome. You can't just completely take rounds off like that and then expect to get every close round to be scored your way.
Anyone that scored it for Smith please give us a round by round break down. I didn't think the scoring by the judges was all that bad. Guerrero domininated most of the fight. Outside of a close first round, I couldn't give Smith a round until the 7th. He wasn't landing dick. Glove shots, elbow shots and low blows generally don't get credited. To bad they didn't have the punch tracker, you'd be embarrassed after you saw that Guerrero probably out landed Smith 3 to 1. There where rounds in there where Smith didn't land 5 shots. I thought the announcers where just off. I couldn't figure out what the hell they where watching.
