Tua-Barrett round by round!!

i had it close but monte ahead going into the last then after then [point deduction and the KD it was a no brainer, very strange decision

 

Tua at one time was prime top ten heavyweight. father time has caught up to him. He still can be relevant and act as a gatekeeper. His experience and power will always make him dangerous. And Barrett has good skills, but he's getting old as well. He works well as alive underdog, He's spoiled alot of decent fighters' days when they though he was just a stepping stone.

 

Was the knockdown legit?

 

Skills are B but his power makes him exceptional.

 

Tua has been fighting softies for such a long time. No dis to Monte but if Tua was world class he would have stopped him early. Monte won a moral victory and should take that with his retirement (and the check of course).

 

Barrett should retire........... He is game, but no longer feeable........

Very much so. IMO, Tua was a good shot away from getting KOd. If he'd been in there with a puncher, he would have been done.

Most fighters' chins - even those with iron chins like Tua - become less durable as they get older. Look at Mercer, for example.

 

was it a single-punch that made his legs go out from under him? ive been searching for a video of the 12th round but cant find anything.

 

Tua backed Barrett off , Monte was on the ropes and they went punch for punch , as Monte was slowly fighting his way off the ropes they kept trading , Monte slipped everything Tua threw and landed like 4 punches on Tua that dropped him clean . Tua was wobbly but Monte didn't even attempt to try and finish him off , in fact he actually backed off and tried to move away in the remaining time .

 

Yeah, that's the way it looked to me. Tua went down on his back and looked pretty hurt to me. He looked kinda shook up when he first got up, but did well to survive.

 

Barrett lost to Wlad and tasted the canvas several times.

 

Appalling performance by Tua. He just can't seem to set anything up. I thought he did a good job to the body at times, but generally he repeated what he's done the past 10 years: plod forward and launch the occasional, telegraphed left hook.

I wasn't surprised to see him go down. He'd been shaken a few times earlier - notably when he was smirking. He did that when Lewis really hurt him.


I'm a New Zealander and support Tua, but I have no faith in his ability to win. He's got a chance against anyone, but he can also do it tough against the most mediocre fighter. I'd still give him a 10% chance against Haye and none against either Klitchsko. That would be very brutal.

 

Tua's done, didnt you see how bad his timing was to setup, as you said? He will get stopped by any contender with an ounce of power, hes done.

Been a longtime fan but this wasnt David Tua, this was an old fighter and one lacking the motivation that made him what he was.
