What is the real reason Bute isn't in the Super 6? Was he not asked or did he turn it down? Especially after the departure of Jermain Taylor, you would think he should be the next guy instead of Greene.
According to Ken Hershman, executive president of Showtime Sports, Lucian Bute and Kelly Pavlik were excluded from the Super Six because including them would cost to much. They were not invited because they make to much money. Excluding fighters on the basis of cost pretty much proves that this tournament was never about the "best fighting the best." It's about making money. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, but the fact that Showtime/Sauerland excluded two fighters who were more deserving than Dirrell, Ward, Taylor, Abraham, and Green says a lot about Showtime/Sauerland's concern with quality.
Martinez called out 39 year old welterweight Shane Mosely. Now he is trying to make a fight with Angulo who has 20 fights total, and is barely more than a prospect. Bute and Martinez should not be mentioned in the same conversation.
wow, we've actually got strap holders fighting each other in this tournament and sauerland/showtime are being accused of greed? come on. I agree that green was a **** pick and of course i would rather have bute, bika, or pavlik but what can you do? This is a very costly tournament. lots of undefeated fighters, lots of promoters, can you imagine how hard this was to put together in the first place?
I've watched every fight, and will continue to do so. The tourney has produced only one really good fight, but I'm sure we'll see a couple more good ones before it's over. I've never said the S6 is a bad thing. However, a lot of people seem to be blind to the fact that it has a lot of faults.
Well, no **** it has faults. But still, the fact that so many contenders and beltholders are taking so many difficult fights consecutively is an effort that has to be praised. I personally wish the S6 was faster by a few months and obviously had bute in the place of allan green, but I'm happy just that so many promoters can collaborate to bring the fans top tier fights. If every division had events as competitive as the S6 boxing wouldn't be in the state that it is
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the obvious. His promoters don't want him to fight a live body and they'd rather have him face non-elite opponents in Montreal for the rest of his career. But I guess that is modern boxing, what can you do.
