It may well be that Boytsov is just knocking out very modest competition early, but had a more difficult time against Pala when it stepped it up a notch. Even tho he's only 21 and obviously has heaps of potential I wonder if his aggressive style will translate into wins against decent competition. And can he adjust it when experienced fighters aren't phased and fight back.
I think it pretty much says it all that everybody is talking about Boystov and what he can do and there has been nary a mention of Greenberg. Everybody seems to know Greenberg's a joke who will get beaten badly as soon as he faces a live body.
I actually think this is a great question. Physically you could certainly argue Tyson was ready to be champ at 21 but mentally and emotionally he was not. Most heavies at 21 are still growing and still gaining bone density and mass but I dont think Tyson was, he physically matured very young. But mentally and emotionally Tyson was an adolescent, he still is if you ask me. In that sense I dont think Tyson will ever mature so 21 was as good a time as any to fight for the title but I dont think thats common or even desirable.
There is a huge difference between Lacy and Boytsov, mohak! Lacy was schooled and stopped by Gaidar Gaidarbekov in his last amateur fights whereas Boytsov knocked out all his opponents to win gold in south corea(juniour world championchip). I guess it is fair to claim that a fighter who knocked out all his opponents on his way to win a gold medal in a tournament where the countries of this planet had sent their best young boys to has the potential to be a big shot at the pros. Boytsov is still a very young greenhorn who has to learn one or two things before taking on better opposition. He didnt look very convincing in one of his last fights against very young Czech heavy weight hope Ondrej Pala.Of course we have to take into account that Pala is no bum or pushover but a very talented young heavy ,too.
If indeed Gaidarbekov gave Lacy a boxing lesson, it would appear he didn't learn anything from it. I'm hoping that Boytsov will get some better boxing lessons than he has been getting.
I know there's a difference between them. I'm just saying nearly ever half decent prospect is stamped with the ''new Tyson'' label.
Isn't Greenberg retired? I talked to someone close to his camp last year, and was told that Greenberg is now living in Israel. Supposedly he's on a kibbutz, done with boxing. I'm not aware that Greenberg has even fought since the Cedric Boswell fight.
Maybe 2 weeks ago i remember reading that he had surgery on his hand, had recoverd and is just starting to get back into training. so he'll prob take a little bit to get back into top shape then set up his next fight.
Damn. This is an old thread. Thanks for bumping it up. Boytsov is still Boytsov three years later -- fought nobody.
