    I was a World Champion, But a "gumball" lodged in my throat and ended my life. Who am I?

    He beat 5 World Champions and fought 7 Hall of Famers (6 were World Champions). His total record was 5-8 against them.

    He was also a referee, and did so a couple of times while still an active boxer. Once when he was the Champion of his division and one of the boxers that fought that night fought for the Heavyweight Title twice.

    No, Gunboat was never a World Champion.

    He beat 5 World Champions and fought 7 Hall of Famers (6 were World Champions). His total record was 5-8 against them.

    Hint: He was an very good diver
    Hint: Half his losses were against Hall of Famers.

    He was also a referee, and did so a couple of times while still an active boxer. Once when he was the Champion of his division and one of the boxers that fought that night fought for the Heavyweight Title twice.

    Last hint tonight: He once fought for the Heavyweight Title.
