A lot of jealous ppl on this thread....
He was a protected fighter..but so is every other boxer out there Bhop? Jones fighting dustmen...don't get me started with void....bitched out of fighting the so called one dimensional fighter PAC.
46-0 there is no blueprint to beating calzaghe.
For void just look at Castillo.

Defence/Speed/footwork/chin/combinations and sting. He had it all and didn't inject his hands with any ****.

    Sir Joe I salute u!

Exactly my thoughts. But at least he would've a chance to become an ATG that way. To be fair for him, I would give him decent shot against Toney on his night off.

Calzaghe would have been the best thing since sliced bread.
If America had a SMW that had beaten Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Brewer who always got recognition, even when losing, Sheika who was praised for brave fights and rated to have the best chin in the division by the Ring at one time, 2 time WBA SMW champ Mitchell who the Ring said added excitement to the SMW division, beat Manfredo, beat the highly touted Lacy and Kessler, then beat Hopkins and Jones. Remember Echoles and Tate pulled out, not that they would have mattered as they were lesser fighters than the other names like Veit, Mkertchyan, Bika and Starie etc.
So yes Calzaghe would have been well praised im sur if he was American.

Fools that say he would have lost in America and say he would have had to have fought Hopkins, Jones and Toney forget they were all at different divisions when in there popular years to where Calzaghe was and Hopkins and Toney didnt fight, but what these idiots dont realise is that Toney was fighting at CW before Joe even won his first SMW title, and dont like to except that Hopkins wouldnt fight Joe and Jones wanted a high price, but in truth Joe wasnt on his radar.

46-0 21 defences WBO WBC WBA IBF SMW Ring title and LHW Ring champ. Yes there would be thread after thread about how American Joe the best SMW ever beat Reid, Woodhall, Starie and half English Kessler who were all bums compared to Lacy who he beat as well

Had he been American he would have been forced to move up in weight early and would have been exposed along time ago ..The one thing about the US is that the fans demand you step up fast !

I've always hated Calzaghe and he's the ultimate paper champion.

But if he was American....... I'd still hate him as much.

The Europeans on here (or anywhere) think that being American elevates you automatically to mythical status, but the reality is America has so many boxers that he'd simply be another one on the list. He'd have been forced to take on people on the elite level way which he never did, and most likely fail because he had no power. He'd be a 168 Malignaggi - respectable career, but not elite. Sure have some pride that a fellow Welshman made it far, but don't pretend that he's something he's not, he's just been lucky enough to have a great promoter/manager who nursed him perfectly throughout his entire career.

Enzo thought Joe lost the Hopkins fight:lol:

If Joe were American(and Black) you'd hate his guts and call him a chinless hypejob.

Because if he was an American he would have had a time machine and could have fought Toney at supermiddleweight or light heavyweight?

Or because, if he was an American he would have been fatter and would have fought Toney at cruiserweight or heavyweight?
