Is Jeffries-Fitz film out there?? and Jeffries-Sharkey official film??

    Just came across this as I was doing the rounds on the net - never really knew Jeffries Vs Fitz was partly film?? Wonder if thats still out there somewhere?? Anyone got any clues on this one?? Also the full 25 rounds of Jeffries-Sharkey!!?? That would have been awesome - wonder if any of it still exists - i mean I know there's the bootleg bits around pirated by an audience member - but it would be good to see some of the original film - anyone know anything of this? Thought the original had been lost for good but didn't know whether it was just an old wives tale?

    it really sucks that fight films once existed and are now nowhere to be seen, best example: Greb-Tunney I.

    Neither Jeffries Fitzsimmons I nor II was filmed, but there is footage of them sparring to recreate the fight. Although it was a sparring sesion they were apparently going at it for real.

    All of Jeffries Sharkey II was filmed except the last couple of rounds but all of the film was lost except for a few badly eroded outtakes. The original film is purported to have been of much higher quality. It is highly unlikley that more of the film will ever surface.

    The footage of Jeffries-Fitz is actually actors re-enacting their bout. It is not them in the film, or even them re-enacting their bout.

    The entire Jeffries-Sharkey championship bout was filmed except for the final round. the final round was re-enacted by the fighters with the referee being replaced by Jeffries manager. That film now only exists in a very short mutoscope film version, and a bootleg of the original theatrical production.

    yeah but this link doesn't refer to the re-enactment - this refers to the actual fight being filmed (up to the point the arc lights burned out that is) - just wondering was this peice of film was ever saved - has it ever been seen by anyone since??

    Hello Janitor - but this link suggests quite matter of factly that the Fitz-Jeff fight was filmed up to the point the arc lights burned out apparently - almost like its common knowledge to people in the victorian films circuit?? Wonder who had it and where its gone now?? Have you ever seen anything in reference to it being watched by anyone down the years?

    An official reel of Jeffreis vs Sharkey did show up. However the chemicals they used to spray on film has broken down over the years, and it was mostly a blur.

    One day fight fans might be able to see all TV broadcast fights and radio fights in the future, as the signals are still in space. Let hope we all live long enough to catch up to these signals and see them.

    My dad saw this fight in 1922 at the old MSG..He always raved about Greb to me....

    Thanks for posting that Reznick - but that was the bootleg version shot by someone in the crowd - the article i attached sugests that there was an official film though - probably much better quality and clarity I'm guessing and it also says the Fitz-Jeffries fight was filmed until the arc lights burnt out - that would've really been something to see for sure

    this wasnt a film shot by someone in the crowd at the fight. It is a film of the official theatrical film of the fight shot by someone in a movie theatre showing the fight. It is likely to be history's first bootleg.

    The official Jeffries vs. Sharkey 2 film came out very clear. I have pictures of frame shots, captured in in a rather creative way that I posted here a while back. The photos were never seen before, at least on a print or computer screen format.
