I've got to say that it takes some balls to come out in a world title fight bombing like that when both fighters can punch and both can be hurt, Benn moreso. That was a gamble that paid off. Hat's off to both men!

Ive seen Nigel Benn, he is certainly no Eurobum, a good solid fighter. As wrong as it may seem, all European fighters are guilty until proven innocent in my book, cause there have been alot of frauds, but I guess thats all fighters.

even though I always say Benn stopped Barkley in one, the 3 knockdown rule is something Benn should be grateful for. Barkley would have recovered and probably stopped Benn in round 2.

In the book 'War, Baby', Nigel says that they had a game plan he was about to work towards.

Then, with the fighters announced and ring emptied, US TV cut to an advert break just as the bell was about to go.

Nigel's corner looked at Barkley, seen something, and told Nigel to forget the gameplan, just go and knock him out.

    The rest is history.

Obviously, you can't take stories like this for granted, but it's a decent tale regardless.

And you base this on the fact Benn was much faster with more compact punches, landing first, couldn't miss Barkley and continually knocked him to the floor. Great logic :good

1 of Benn's corner men overheard Barkley's team talking, came and said to Benn, 'they think we're mugs, they think your just going to walk in brawling and throwing right haymakers', Benn replied 'too ****ing right I am' :yep

Barkley was starting to get in the grove and was fighting back and backing Benn up, Benn was faster, but the last knockdown was more Barkley's legs going than being hurt and more of a slip. The 3 knockdown rule is why that fight lasted only to round one, and the knockdowns were half knockdowns and half slips from Iran's legs being weak and from him being stunned, but not sure knockdowns. So Iran was not hurt as much at the end of that fight as one would think with 3 knockdowns.
In round 2 I think Barkley comes out smoking and backs up Benn and it would have been a war with Iran landing his left hook and stopping Benn in a spectacular finish. Benn did not have a great chin. Evidence Dewitt's left hook. Benn came out of the gate well, but his defense as not great and he would not have been as sharp in round 2 and I can see Iran's left hook landing more and more. Barkley is rarely stopped. What stopped him here was the rule.
