they were trained by the same uk coaches in the amatuers and if you watch both of them it really does show

 

Please watch John Conteh and Jim Watts before commenting please. Conteh was a technically brilliant fighter hampered by chronic hand problems.

Maybe you have a point about Haye I confused having skills with being a sound technical fighter but because he has an unorthodox style and skills his defence is a bit sloppy.

 

Minimum he is British because his country of birth is Britain. I called him British Jamaican because his family is from Jamaica so that means culturally he has more affinity with Jamaica than any other country.

Having a little Canadian twang in his voice just not make him Canadian he is just a resident there and only represented Canada for the Olympics. During his whole pro career he had the British flag draped all over him.

 

Chris Finnegan was a genuinely world-class technician IMO.

 

Lennox reached the standing he did precisely because he avoided being trained by British coaches.

 

It's stupid to talk about the UK in boxing, because although 6 counties in the north-east of Ireland remain in the United Kingdom, fighters there come through the IRISH amateur system (which it has to be said, produces much better technical boxers than the british system).

British fighters tend to rely more on either brute force and "hardness", al a Carl Froch and Hatton (not to say that these 2 aren't great athletes).

You could say Eubank and Benn perhaps? Eubank trained in the USA from the age of 16 though i think?

 

Your probably right and another guy just made a good point about Eubank being trained from 16 onwards in the USA until he relocated to Britain. Interestingly, Eubank has sent his son over to the states to be trained.

Go to his website, do you see that crest he's made for himself? Yeah, the Canadian flag is on there. So perhaps you don't consider him Canadian, but he identifies himself, to some degree, to be Canadian. You shouldn't make assumptions about other peoples identities if you don't know for sure.

And as for the question, the UK used to produce good technical fighters, plenty of them.It's over the past 20 years it has changed, with most of the better fighters being the punchers and more unorthodox fighters that rely more on physical ability..generally while being defensively incompetent.
