No matter what Floyd Does....

Is Pac a better fighter, or does he have more fan fare that these other guys? Is it that he's so far superior to JLC, Corrales, SSM, JMM or is it that he has become a pop culture icon and so the "myth" is greater than the substance? Not saying that's true, just putting it out there. Either way you aren't going to find the fight Floyd isn't assumed to win unless he goes up in weight to levels he has no business of being at. He would be a significant betting favorite over Manny today, tomorrow, or next year.

Being Black hasn't impacted the publics perception with regards to how they view Floyd. Being "MONEY" has. That whole persona is one that is meant to cause contraversy....he says it himself. There are good and bad that comes along with that persona that he plays so well. It brings in a lot of Money which Floyd is all about but it also brings harsh and sometimes unfair critisim. But Floyd should know that and he has to expect all that goes along with the choices he makes.

Other black athletes don't get that same kind of hate or critism b/c they arent looking to cause contraversy for no reason....Floyd is.

 

Actually...I thought so too. but the Bookies had Manny as a slight favorite back in March when the odds were relased closer to when the fight was originally suppose to happen. Bert Sugar was REALLY surprised as was I.

 

It's viewed as defiance, and how dare this "colored kid" who has been "given" this opportunity to be rich and famous not have more respect for the white man and his establishment, and should act more white. Now that sounds harsh, and it is harsh, I am a white man but being a social scientist and living in the South, this is a topic that we study pretty frequently and as opposed to going into theory and citing sources that you don't give a **** about, I am putting it as simple as I can. If you would like to study it go to google scholar and search symbolic racism and othering, or even racism in athletics and you will find some really interesting articles and journals.

Well again, Luke, as I said in the post why don't you do the research for yourself as opposed to taking exception with me. Believe it or not, I didn't found Social Science, I simply study it. You act as if I came up with logic and theory that drive racial aspects of Socialology. By all means, write a paper and disprove it, all I'm telling you is it's real phenomenon.

"RESPECT" is the foundation we shoud use here. Floyd lacks respect that others embrace. It's a foundation for all walks of life. When those who decide to show "DISRESPECT" of course other peoples perecption begins to change.

White folk who are disrespectful or overly cocky like Paulie M....he gets a lot of similar hate and critisim Floyd gets. But he's not Black yet deals with common issues.

I don't think the "white establishment" in boxing want black fighters to act more "white"..... Part of what makes for a successful promotion is highlighting the personalities of the fighters...their background, their story and accomplishments.

If everyone acted "white".....boxing wouldn't be successful. They actually push for more "personality"....not that his has to be DISRESPECTFUL...just more colorful. Look at James Toney and Mike Tyson. They had simialr confidence and "colorful" personalities but they get FAAAAAAR more love than their fellow Black American boxer in Floyd. Floyd just rubs folks the wrong way b/c he's such an ass hole that doesn't get much love.

I know racism is not dead in the US or globally but in this particular situation its not really valid when speaking about Floyd.

 

I am sure floyd had plenty of white fans prior to his retirement.
