Tyson's era might have an edge, but there isn't that big of a gap. Comparing who the Klits fought to pre-prison Tyson, Lewis is the single best opponent between the three of them. Ibragimov, Chagaev, Chambers and Byrd would all be able to compete back then, and to a lesser extent Gomez, Peter, and Sanders. Haye, Povetkin, Solis, and Adamek would probably do okay too, except neither Klit has fought any of them yet.
I kind of agree with this opinion however i think if you look at tyson in his prime on his best dayhe would of beat them, but thats opinion. Its imposible to compare the heavyweights today with heavyweights of the past because the size differences. Theyre was just a lot more drama and because theyre were many more evenly matched fights. With much more glitz And many of them are great athletes. I think Lennox, Bowe, Tyson and a few more would be able to beat the Klits. And if m of todays heavys were born longer ago they would have done some damage. And I kno its controversial. But thats my opinionany
Did any heavyweight in Tyson's era have a mandatory title shot against Tyson for 30 months and then after having the match all setup and a date and arena arranged pull out with his head between his legs? :-(
lennox lewis was NO.1 contender for the WBC title when tyson held it. instead of fighting him, he paid lewis a **** load of money to step aside.he then dropped the title and ran from him for years.:-(
The 80's had far better HW's then todays shitty era. Just look at the heavies today. Hardly any of them are in shape. None of them have any boxing skills whatsoever. Even the champ Vitali can't throw a punch to save his life. Wlad is a one dimensional robot who's been beaten up by complete tomato cans. At least the guys in Tyson's era came in shape and knew how to fight. All of these bums in todays HW division wouldn't be anywhere near the top level in the 80's or 90's.
I'm not criticizing Tyson (or Klitschko). I'm criticizing the heavyweight era of today (particularly Alexander Povetkin, who most non-org rankings have about #4 or #5) once you get past the champ. #2 is his brother. Fair enough. #3 (Haye) won't fight him. #4 (Povetkin) won't fight him. The equivalent would be Lennox sitting out there for two years with a WBC title shot, he lets Tyson take other fights, maybe hoping Tyson will lose so he would not have to beat him, the day comes, he's told by everyone he has to finally take the fight, goes to purse bid, his side loses horribly, and then he refuses to get on an airplane and drops his title shot because he's scared of losing.
WTF. Vitali cant throw a punch? I believe it was how many years in kickboxing and a 6 time WORLD CHAMP! Not to mention what 3-4 time boxing heavyweight champ. Undeafeted even after a 4 year lay off(Think it was 4?) Highest KO percentage ever even with the layoff. Never been down on the scorecards in a SINGLE FIGHT! At least know a little about boxing and its fighters before you post:-(
Mitch "Blood" Green beats both the Klits, seriously. Bonecrusher, Tony Tucker, Holmes Carl Williams would beat them as well.
Absolutely wrong. KlitschKOs do not dominate because of the size. If that was the case, then someone like Valuev would dominate. The size is not the reason. It is an easy and comfortable explanation but it is so wrong.
Vitali won his first belt in the 90's after a 2nd round KO against Herbie Hide who competed for six rounds with Riddick Bowe in '95. So what's your point...?
