I am a famous boxing referee who was even more famous for something else. I was born in a small town. A future president of the United States and a famous mass murderer each lived in this town, although it is small and not well known. Who am I?

I love stories about Wyatt Earp. He has to be one of the most fascinated characters in American history.. I also loved the movies such as tombstone and wyatt earp that came out back in the 90's....Classics...

Earp turned down the job of ref for "Johnson-Jeffries" in '10...... Not sure why.... I guess he didn't need the money or the publicity later in life.?.?
