The problem for Byrd in this one imo is that he is not the fastest boxer on his feet. He´s quick with his hands and he has great upper body movement and reflexes, but he was always standing in front of you and make you miss. He really wasn´t the runner-type, who would´ve avoided Tyson to get inside. Byrd did a great job on Tua and Tua is often compared with Tyson and to a certain degree this comparison is right, but prime Tyson was much faster than Tua, that can´t be denied. If Tyson was able to get inside, i cannot see Byrd getting away. Tyson would´ve done the same as Ike did, i have no doubt about that, eventhough i´m a huge Byrd fan and in fact Chris is my favourite fighter of all time.
This thread has no significance to the history of boxing and comparing a prime Tyson to a prime Bird is a joke. The post Buster Tyson could have got beaten by anyone. Tyson was good but his ability to win competitive fights fell off a cliff after 1990. That's why he doesn't come near my ATG Top 10 HW's.
Byrd could have beaten Tyson at any stage of his career. Whether he would or not would depend upon which Tyson should up. Chris would frustrate the hell out of Tyson and Tyson was a psycho so who knows.
to be honest I think a peak Byrd would have a shot against past prison Tyson. Awkward style, iron chin.. he would have a shot at least. A prime Tyson KOs him tho - a prime Tyson could match Byrds speed, and Tyson just had so much more...
I can see why you'd suggest this one, and Byrd was great against that kind of fighter- but I think prime Tyson just has a bit too much for Rapid Fire. I think this mythical, revered 'prime' Tyson is pretty overrated but still an incredible fighter A very, very good shot against post prison Tyson imo
You need punching power to gain Tyson's respect. A young Tyson savage's Bird. A POST prison Tyson KO's Bird mid rounds. Bird's best chance is a UD over "World tour" version of Tyson. IMO.
