I think Audley Harrison vs David Haye would fail

Every major fight in the UK in the last 20 years has has one thing in common. behind the huge event, the marketing, sky selling the **** out of it, there was always a potential great or intriguing fight at the centre of it.

Haye vs Valuev and Macceranelli, Benn vs Eubank, Hatton vs Mayweather and a recent example would be Kevin Mitchell vs Michael Katsidis. All fights that sold allot of tickets to UK fans. Its quite obvious that "Lifelong Hammers fan" Cockney Kevin is the key reason 20,000 turned up at Upton Park for the world title fight, but would they have been there if it was Paulus Moses for the WBA title? Did the small number of hardcore boxing fans, start a snowball affect which helped make the card a sucess.

Harrison may have to 250k for his last fight on sky, but how many of those would pay £15 to watch him??? Amir Khan was getting 8million viewers on ITV but as soon as he wen't to Sky, even the Barerra fight was a failure on PPV.

For a PPV to be succesful, and for a card to sell allot of tickets, it needs more than just the Sky marketing machine. To get the ball rolling the hardcore fans need to be behind it, telling there mates what a great fight its going to be. This is what happend with Hatton vs Mayweather. It won't happen with Harrison vs Haye and thats why the fight will fail.

 

I agree. Don't make it any closer to a Klitschko fight though.

 

haye vs harrison sells for me, apart from a fight with a klitschko this is the one i believe does well, say haye fights chagaev or adamek next you'll have the usual haye fans plus the others who arent massive boxing fans but because its a british heavyweight involved in a title fight there interested.
with haye vs harrison, theres all sorts interested haye and audley fans plus you've got all those non boxing fans interested just because its two well known british heavyweights, and not to mention all those who just want to see audley get squashed once and for all.

whoops just remembered how many polish there are over here so the adamek fight should sell.

i must add that i dont really want to see haye/audley and would rather see haye in with vitali, not quite sure what haye and his team are playing at at the moment? all that trash talk with the klits and haye backs out, then theres adamek whos already got a fight lined up, chagaev who nobody wants his blood on there sleeves and the non interesting valuev rematch or the fight that haye said he would never take as audley aint good enough or a load of shop worn overweight yanks that have all taken a beating from the klits?

Talking to casual fans in my local pubs, I'm convinced this would sell in the UK. They just don't see a problem with Harrison as an opponent for Haye.

 

I think it sells. It's a fight I wouldn't mind seeing (yes I know I'm crazy/deluded) but would I pay £15? to see it? Hell no. I would watch it at a pub though. I think plenty of casuals would cough up the £15 though so I can see it doing well.

 

My mate who is a very casual fan and only really watches it when im watching said he would buy the fight himself just to see audley sparked out!

 

Bruno-Bugner was all over the press and papers using the good guy/ bad guy angle when Bugner was 37.....they''ll do OK with this.

People have heard of Harrison, and enough of them have NOT seen him fight for the last 5 years to think that it would be worth coughing up to watch a world HW title between two Brits they've hear of to make it a PPV success.

 

Haye has only 2 ppv worthy fights....I would not pay to see him fight anyone but the Klits.

agreed but i still think you need the hardscore support. I don't think haye vs harrison sells that many more ppv's to make it worthwhile. I dont think it sells many more tickets either.

Haye sold out agaisnt Ruiz and Audley only got 90 people to his last fight.

 

people know this fight will probly be over in the first round so it would definatly need another title fight on the undercard

I thought Audley would drag Haye a bit deeper into the contest, break him down with the fearsome Audley jab, before detonating a mega-ton KO punch on David's chin.

 

I was there and thats not the impression I got.
