I think Audley Harrison vs David Haye would fail

the longer he elaves it the less support haye has

my mates who are real casual fans (well not boxing fans at all, just watched hatton etc. you know the type) that were really into haye before the valuev fight with all that big build up are forgetting about him

i dont know why he doesnt just make the audley fight, then fight some other crap fight he will look good in, whilst he is waiting/negotiating/avoiding/whatevers going on there with the klitschkos. Get big money for easyish fights, build the fanbase up so if/when a klitschko fight happens it'll be even bigger and he'll make more money. Alternatively he could sit on his ass and box every 9 months or so.

 

I think it would be Massive, but dont think Audley deserves it, but thats life :roll:

 

Doesn't that kill your argument? Haye sold out against Ruiz, who in the grand scheme of things is a jobber no-one had heard of. If he can sell out the M.E.N for Ruiz there is every chance he can sell it out for Harrison.

 

no my point is if he can sell the MEN 20,000 for Ruiz and get a decent PPV he can do that with Adameck, Arreola, Solis, Chagaev, Rahman......

He doesnt need Auldey.

 

Rob, I enjoy your posts a lot mate and agree with a lot of what you say normally but think you are way off with this. Hardcore fans have so little influence, if they did Froch-Kessler would of been a major success. Haye-Valuev was hardly a fight the hardcores were salivating for but it did phenomenal business. The key to PPV success is star power, story and media backing. Haye-Harrison ticks all 3 boxes and would be a success as a result

 

But then he gets a harder opponent.

 

this is a stadium fight not an arena fight, audley will sell this, haye will sell this, there will be bad blood in the run up, outside of ricky hatton and amir khan these are the only two fighters the british public have heard of, they are fighting each other for the world heavyweight title and audley has a chance, he hits harder than barett, he hits harder than ruiz and they both had plenty of chances.

 

Its sells but it shouldn't.

The hardcore, like the majority of users on this forum, will buy it because they buy most PPVs. The casual fan knows about both guys and even has a "hate figure" to root against. The casual sports fan, not neccesarily boxing fan normally, will have heard about both guys and will be sucked into the "All-English World Heavyweiht title fight".

The fact that it has the potential to be an awful fight, possibly even a stinker, won't have any bearing on ticket or PPV sales. Even Mrs Lee Mc wants to go to it if its in London...

This will be huge.

 

Thats what i think,provided its on at the right time it sells on box office.As for Audley,ok he might not be the best challenger ever but plenty of fighters have had title shots who aint deserved them why not Aud,worse have challenged for titles.

 

Exactly this! Plus Britain hasn't seen a decent heavyweight for a few years let alone 2 British heavyweights as high profile as this going head to head.

Although we as fans know how terrible the heavyweight division is currently, the general public and the most casual of fans have the heavyweight division as the pinnacle in their eyes, where the major fights happen and where the cream of the crop lies. Put it this way, I've played fight night with a few casual fans and they only like picking the heavyweight boxers, they just don't see the lower weights as appealing.

Or maybe that's just because I've got d*ckheads for friends...who knows!

Ok can you name a fight that did big PPV numbers or sold allot of tickets in the last 10 year that wasn't seen as a great fight from the off???? the only one i can think off is Hatton vs Lazcano

 

It doesn't need to be seen as a great fight from the off for it to sell. Two British heavyweights fighting for a 'World' title. Both have charisma, both have knockout power, both are, if you discount Khan, the most popular active boxers in the UK right now.

It's a piece of **** to sell, and sell it will.

 

Its more than 10 years but Bruno-Bugner is the obvious parallel. Bugner had no chance of winning, played the "bad guy" in an all domestic heavyweight fight (not even a title fight) and the fight was MASSIVE.
