Hear me out on this one. I think the way in which Povetkin didnt show up and likely lied about a sinus infection was a ***** move, much like Haye with the broken back spinal story was, but it was the best move.

Povetkin, though not terribly young, is not a war torn fighter and has time on his side. He likely wants to keep his 0 and claim a belt. By fighting Wlad right now he will lose his 0 and some of his marketability. It really isnt a fight he can win, Wlad is only susceptible to a big puncher and even that is in doubt these days with his perfected style.

Waiting yields him more chances at a belt. A match with the weaker haye, or an older vitali in another year or 2. Vitali might retire soon. He has more options.

Yes, in the short term this will make him look badly, but in the long term it is more beneficial for his career. If he wins a belt down the road he has more leverage versus wlad and he at least can say he was world champ.

But it does not condone signing for a fight, wasting peoples time and money, just to bsck out at the last second.

    It has tarnished his credibility

According to Wlad Povetkin never actually signed any contract. He just pulled out after the the purse bid.

Get ready for this... I AGREE WITH YOU... ****, did I really say that:yep

Really, I think its the right thing for Povetkin. As they say, live to fight another day.... its his team that is a total mess. Everyone trying to pull him in a different direction (including Atlas).... I hope they get it figured out before it all falls apart before he even get a new shot at a belt

they had talks and spent time finalizing the contract... he just never signed it....

you think Atlas flat out told him.."Dont sign it" with the other team members in the dark?

Povetkin's team claims they sent the IBF medical documentation of Povetkin's cold as well as the doctor's recommendation that he not make the transatlantic flight. So I don't think he was faking anything. However, Team Klit was afraid he wouldn't sign and went to the IBF to have Povetkin removed as the mando. In the end, there should've been more communication. It makes no sense for something like this to happen.

He didnt sign PERIOD. The IBF had to DEMAND 1 week ago that Povetkin go to the presser... he still said NO... they said you dont go you can be stripped of #1.... they said.. OK we will go... then the night before... "im sick"... come on.... why not send at least 1 representative?... they sent NO ONE!!!!

Like I said, there should've been more communication. It doesn't look like Povetkin's side did much of this which is why Povetkin is no longer the mando.

Wlad did talk to them.... the trainer said 1 thing, manager and promoter another thing.... they are not clear of what to do

NO WAY this is on wlad.... POVETKIN dropped the ball and it looks like..ON PURPOSE!

I absolutely can't blame Wlad and his team for pushing to have Povetkin removed from his spot. He hasn't seen interested from the beginning, about two years ago, in fighting Wlad. Wlad has lost a lot of time in wasted negotiatings with Haye and probably doesn't want to waste anymore time with Povetekin, so he wants to find someone who is willing to get in the ring with him. Peter would fight anyone, is next in line, so we get Wlad-Peter 2.

And I agree that Povetkin is probably making the right choice. He can't beat Wlad right now but if he waits a year or two then he could catch Wlad on the downside of his career. I also think Povetkin has a much better chance to beat Vitali or Haye so maybe go that route first. Then, with a belt and Wlad being older he could look to unify and make more money and have a better shot at winning. So, I wanted to see Wlad-Povetkin I think Povetkin made the right choice, unless he gets upset in his next fight or two.
