Modern training which would have helped Sam put on some more muscle weight,,,how do you see this, would Sam have had a good chance in your opinion?

Langford was a big puncher and we know Frazier struggled with guys that had alot of power so I'd definitely give Langford a good chance of winning this.

Wow. Great fight. I actually think despite the weight difference, Sam Langford was the stronger of the two. I think the key here though is Frazier's superior speed and technique will offset Langford's superior strength. I also think Frazier will outwork Langford on the inside. I think Joe has the proper toughness and heart to survive a few of Sam's big bombs along the way. Langford was a big puncher, but he was no George Foreman brutal clubbing power.

    Frazier Majority Decision

Frazier didn't like taking on shorter opponents, but he got lots of practice dealing with this situation and became surprisingly adept at it. Joe would get in close, smother away Sam's punching room, and likely outwork him. Langford could well be stronger, but Smoke dealt with the strength of Chuvalo and Stander, and even with that of bodybuilding convict Cummings at the very end. (When Jumbo Cummings squared off with Frazier, I thought his physical size and weight trained strength would play a critical role, but Joe neutralized it very well. Foreman was just a complete genetic freak of nature. So was Langford, but Sam didn't have George's height and reach advantages.)

Frazier said he respected any man with 2 hands because he could put some hurt on you.

Langford early,,,,,or Frazier by decision in 15.

Langford kod Wills [left and middle] with one left hook he was out cold.
Langford kod Godfrey [ right]twice in 1 and 2 rds he was 38 years old.
Fraziers best KO is over a lhvy[Foster] who was beaten by every top heavyweight he faced.
Who did Frazier actually ko ,who was top class?

Langford was a skilled puncher, with a great deal of physical strength ( Far stronger than Frazier ), and iron in his body. I would pick him to TKO Frazier in the mid rounds.

Frazier's superior speed ? YOu don't know enough about Langford. Langford had the speed to fight competitively with Joe Gans, Jack Blackburn, Joe Walcott, Stanley Ketchel and Jack Johnson ... slower than Frazier ? No.

Sam by TKO inside of seven ..

Are you joking:lol: Beating the greatest and giving him hell sums it up Mcvey. I know they are from different eras but come on Fraizer would be awesome even in todays era of huge heavyweights. Ellis,Quarry,Bonavena,Mathis,Martin are some pretty good scalps all fighters that would have been great in the early part of the century. In a pfp ranking and not discrimating eras id rate Langford much higher than Fraizer, but in a HTH matchup at Heavy this is a no brainer. Fraizer is a top 10 Heavyweight. Langford isnt:nono

    1. Yes, Frazier clearly had faster handspeed than Langford.

    2. I have studied a great deal on Langford. You overrate him. He was no Joe Louis.

    3. Joe Frazier would have knocked all those lightweights/welterweights/middleweights out in 1 round.

    4. Yes....he had slower handspeed than frazier. He also had much slower head movement. Actually, Langford's head movement seemed non existent on film, which is why he was susceptible to a long left jab.

"Joe Frazier would have knocked all those lightweights/welterweights/middleweights out in 1 round."

As a lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight himself? Your opinion is that Frazier would have knocked out men like Blackburn, Ketchel, Holly, Walcott, Gans all in 1 round?
