Solo Boxeo Tecate: Craig McEwan vs. Danny Perez RBR

Round 6

McEwan has calmed down, not slapping so much...potshotting and moving. Perez gets his arm trapped and heaves McEwan forward to the ropes. They keep getting knotted up and separated. Perez hits McEwan right in his cut eye with a grazing hook and then as he winces hits him with another to the body as McEwan leans back on the ropes and blinks. McEwan now using his feet a bit more, leaning away from Perez's straighter but slower shots, and popping him on the turn.

 

Round 7

Perez is trying to make a dog fight out of it, launching right hands and then running in as McEwan reacts, throwing short hooks and elbows and shaking McEwan when he's able to grab him. McEwan begins to hit Perez very accurately with pinpoint headshots. Perez is still flicking out his elbows and trying to rough McEwan up. McEwan gets his back to the ropes and takes a few blows to the body but quickly gets back out to the center of the ring.

 

Round 8

McEwan works the left and right like mallets, clubbing Perez wherever his hands aren't - high or low, in alternation. Perez lands a right hand lead on the way in as McEwan is out of position but mostly is getting outlanded. Perez lands another right hand to the left cheek but McEwan taps him right back on the face with a combination of three short punches. McEwan is down from a slip, and the crowd boos thinking it was a KD. McEwan throws a short flurry but looks tired and tries to grab Perez. McEwan backs off, Perez jogs in place for a moment before running after him and straight into a left hand.

 

Round 9

McEwan sticks out a straight jab, and then goes back to his awkward slapping/sweeping shots with either hand, focusing on the body of Perez. They box around the ring a bit, with McEwan more active on the outside and Perez winging out one-timers. Perez begins to land a little and McEwan backs further out. McEwan collects himself and comes back to land accurately again. Perez then pushes him up against the ropes and works to the body. McEwan flurries to either side as they lean their heads on each other's shoulders and take turns punching.

 

Round 10

McEwan bumps Perez in the face with both gloves and then grabs him in an unintentional headlock. They grind around the ring, with Perez burrowing his head into McEwan's chest and both just flipping their fists over into each other's undersides. McEwan tries to move away and Perez punches after him until they are re-clinched. McEwan is able to duck down and begin to extricate himself, slipping the punches of Perez and slapping him in the head. Perez catches McEwan pulling straight back with a right hand. McEwan is staying close and getting hit but is outlanding Perez probably 3 to 1. Perez knocks him all the way back to the ropes, with McEwan bouncing off of them, right at the final bell.

 

95-95 and 97-93 twice to McEwan by majority decision. The crowd doesn't like it.

 

Charles Huerta vs. Jonathan Arias, featherweights (6 rounds)

Round 1

Huerta looks the stronger right away, setting up a 1-2 as Arias tries to stick and move cautiously, moving either laterally or trying to pin himself to Huerta's chest at all times. Arias takes a knee at the ropes after a pair of right hands from Huerta. He's hurt badly! He gets up but Huerta is right on top of him, lining up right hands with jabs but unable to finish him off as Arias puts his arms up protectively.

Round 2

Huerta tries to repeat his success with the 1-2 formula. Arias is wary, and circles to his left with plenty of distance, stopping only to spin into little uppercuts as he turns Huerta. Arias has his hands up to block the power punches of Huerta and is using a lot of upper body movement as well as keeping the feet active.
