Solo Boxeo Tecate: Craig McEwan vs. Danny Perez RBR

McEwan edged it seven rounds to three to my eyes but some of those were tough splits. A draw isn't a bad score, or even a point for Perez. McEwan landed more (and more cleanly), and Perez landed better at times in terms of damage done. Even generalship was pretty close - Perez cut the ring off, but McEwan was still able to figure out how to control the range.

 

Round 3

They fight in a phonebooth and Huerta throws the harder shots while Arias shows a good defense and gets some quick sneaky shots of his own in. They come together without a spatula's space between them up to the bell, with Arias working his hands under the chin of Huerta.

 

Round 4

Huerta is landing only when Arias gets close enough to let him, but is rattling Arias when he does with well-timed shots to the chin. Arias reverts to using his feet and falling in with lunging blows that result in a clinch. Huerta misses a 1-2, and another as the elusive Arias backs up to the ropes and then bounces back into a clinch with Huerta. Arias taps the body right up to the bell.

 

Round 5

More clinching (mostly initiated by Arias). Huerta is now trying to wait and line him up for right hands on the way out after they break on their own. Arias is wisely keeping inside the full range where Huerta can extend with power, and clinching whenever Huerta's hands start moving. Huerta plugs him in the body, causing Arias to back up for a moment - Huerta takes advantage by peppering him until the bell.

Round 6

Arias is cut on his right eye. Huerta is really wearing him down with sheer strength. Arias takes a knee by his corner as Huerta bangs his side with hooks and rocks his face with right hands. Arias gets up and is bullied to the opposite corner where the same treatment drives him back down to his knees and it's waved off.
