Perhaps because, in the post fight interview, he claimed the first he knew of an 8 rounder was when the MC announced it. Obviously he was just covering for Jeffries, but he still shouldn't have said it.

Eh? He said the fight was changed to 6 rounds on Thursday, he told Jeffries in the dressing room it was 6 rounds and none of them knew it was 8 until the announcement.

That was all in the post-fight interview, there's nothing inconsistent there.

Must have misheard then mate, my apologies. I was watching it first thing this morning so obviously didn't absorb it properly. Still doesn't change the fact Jeffries looked awful and this is just an angle for him to make excuses.

It is strange though. Banbula didn't seem in any doubt that it was an eight-rounder.

To be fair, if it was only changed this week, whether Jeffries knew or not, all camp he would have preparing for eight.

Yeah, but you have to factor in the whole battery of excuses here (I think he said something about tearing a bicep and not being able to train properly for the past fortnight, though I have some difficulty telling with no subtitles tbh...)

There's an excuse after every fight.

    I'm out of understanding.

    Anyone can make an excuse.

Jeffries is only at the start of his career but has already perfected the skill of throwing a lightening fast combination of excuses, knitted together in a seemless tapestry, so that the listener doesn't even see the angle from which some of the excuses are coming.

That's impressive stuff, and it's easy to think that a few more fights down the line, he could be making excuses after world title fights.

sounds dodgy, maybe they tried to **** banbula over by trying to change to 6 without telling him...he would conserve energy thinking it was 8 and maybe save himself for the last 2 rounds - if that was the plan they fairly ****ed it up...
