Head 2 Head victories mean nothing like you pointed out last night in that BBC p4p list thread. The Jose Navarro win doesnt really mean anything, he has been beaten everytime he has stepped upto World Level.
Okay, but if you compare the list of victories for each, which is the real deciding factor in a discussion like this, then Mijares' wins are significantly better IMO. Cristian Mijares Record: 39 wins, 6 losses Significant wins: Gerson Guerrero TKO8, Luis Maldonado D12, Katsushige Kawashima SD12, Katsushige Kawashima TKO10, Jorge Arce UD12, Jose Navarro SD12, Alexander Munoz SD12, Chatchai Sasakul TKO3. Jorge Arce Record: 54 wins, 6 losses Significant wins: Yo Sam Choi TKO6, Melchor Cob Castro TD6, Melchor Cob Castro KO5, Juanito Rubillar UD12, Hussein Hussein TKO10, Hussein Hussein TKO2, Rosendo Alvarez KO4 And I didn't say H-2-H victories mean nothing. In the context of the other thread I was making the point that just because you think Vitali would beat Vlad in a fight, that doesn't automatically mean that you have to rate Vitali higher based solely on that theory; you have to take into account their full body of work. The thing is that Mijares and Arce actually did fight, and Mijares won - that doesn't mean that Mijares is automatically a better fighter than Arce (styles make fights etc), but a victory like that does raise his profile and coupled with the rest of his record in the ring puts him ahead of Arce, again in my opinion.
Regardless of the thread criteria, when I'm ranking fighters I take everything into account, and if it's close, I go for aesthetics (or application of skillset as I call it, not just the 'pretty' fighters butthe guys that use whatever attribute they choose to employ and do it well, and then I look at their consistency at doing this throughout their career) so a fight between two fighters when they're not far away from their best form (Arce was at his best a fly IMO, but has always been sporadically terrific) is a pretty big swing either way. Mijares dominated Arce. That was a big win for him, especially if Arce should be as highly ranked as HitmanHatton says. In short, he's backed me up with his point. Sound.
Never said he should be ranked so highly in D-MAC's 10, all I said was he should have been in D-MAC's 10 when the thread started and IMO Arce has a better resume then Mijares.
That's what these threads are all about: conflicting points of view. Gets a good debate going. It would be **** if we agreed with each other all of the time.
:good just making my way through his boxset at the mo. get the feeling he struggles against the bigger men imo, looks to get in close and unload. the first larios KO was ruthless
