How does Tony Jeffries get into ring NOT knowing how long his fight is?!

What's the point of any domestic level fighters fighting?

 

going off recent performances he's certainly not worthy of being shown live on tv, but seeing as he's pulling in the crowds for these shows and he's an olympian i can see why sky are showing him.

 

I think it's always been difficult to get excited about Jeffries. You expect the high-profile 'prospects' to be a bit rough around the edges at this stage in their careers, but you also expect there to be at least one redeeming feature about their game. Very fast hands, exceptional power, pure technical skill, great movement... something that sets them apart from the rest. But I don't see anything that stands out about Jeffries, he seems decent at most things but not exceptional at anything, and it seems that includes mental strength and durability.

I suppose his redeeming feature is that he seems like a good bloke and he's popular in his home town. That won't get him very far though..

 

i thought he might have decent power when he turned pro but he seems average. i think comparisons were made with clinton woods at the start of his career but he won't achieve anything close to what woods achieved

olympion clearly doesen't mean much, imo the amateur oficials do deals for medals, thats why some poor ****er boxes the ears of another, but its not planned for him to win, so the crap decision or incompetant scoring is blamed, for **** sake, floyd mayweather got a bronze medal, i think the england oficials liked jeffries, and to them, thats clearly more important than if you can fight, also the fighter chooses his trainer, but whatever rimmers abilitys, he cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.:-(

Have you seen Mayweather's semi-final at the olympics? He lost fair and square.

I watched every one of Jeffries Olympic fights (I watched every Olympic fight!) and he never got a gift decision. Kenny Egan could have been a great pro though.

But belittling amateur results because Jeffries is struggling as a pro is a little silly really.

i couldnt believe how bad he was i knew he was robotic as hell but he was bad last night.when he was jabbing he was bringing his right hand with it he cant gauge his distance he just rush forward with big clubbing shots.the states isnt guna do anything but make him worse he needs to box like AA peek aboo nothing to technical just basic but works

 

Jeffries seems to be regressing with every fight he has (it can't be a rise in the level of opposition)....he is getting increasingly easy to hit. Maybe confidence has something to do with it. Whatever it is he isn't going beyond area level, if that, on last nights performance...he would get arse raped by any decent journeyman with a winning record. It doesn't bare thinking about what would happen if he stepped through the ropes to face a Cleverley or Bellew.

 

It looked more of a stamina thing than a lack in talent. Of course he won't go anywhere past domestic level but what the hell is a professional fighter doing exhausted after 6 rounds. I think a lot of fighters today are on the wrong kind of diets. There on diets that swimmers or runners would use and they've got no strength or energy.

But you have to pin all the blame on Maloney. He has a young novice who looked bad and exposed in his last fight and has injury problems and hasnt trained so what does he do? Puts him in with an experienced old pro.

 

So you'd sooner see him in with a Latvian bum? These are exactly the kind of fights these hypejobs need to be having early in their careers and if they can't deal with them they can be thrown on the scrapheap so precious TV investment isn't wasted on them.

It's disgraceful how much these young amateurs are getting for fighting journeymen. I know it's never going to happen, but they ought to be on £3000 a fight like Hatton and Calzaghe were at the start of their careers.

Both have attracted a lot of critics for various reasons, some of it fair, some not - but they were blowing away good journeymen for fun at the start..... and we saw them fight the top domestic fighters (Witter and Woods excepted).

These get shitloads of cash, fight average journeymen and fringe contenders before getting a WBO shot. Just wrong.

Maloney should put Jeffries in with a Dilks and see what happens - spend the money on Munroe and Booth instead.
