Im sure this has been asked before but i was curius. Who wins and how over 15 rounds prime for prime during Fraziers era given an 8 week training camp?
An interesting match up, a very strong, powerful punching, good endurance and can take anything thrown at him Jeffries vs a faster moving and punching, also good chinned, and can fight for 15 full rounds Frazier. Frazier takes most of the rounds but he can't stay away from close quarters with Jeff the whole way where Jeffs strength and powerful shots will take some of the starch out of Joe, enough so that I see Joe in big trouble in the last few rounds. I wouldn't be suprised to see Joe down late but if Sharkey could last as long as he did Frazier should be able to survive the 15th. Frazier by clear decision.
Frazier by unanimous decision. Look at how much trouble Jeffries was given by Tom Sharkey..Frazier was bigger, better than sharkey in every way shape or form. Jeffries was not a big puncher. He often took many rounds to dispose of challengers 30-40lb lighter than him. Jeff does not possess that early clubbing power foreman presented. I think this will go a lot like the Frazier-Chuvalo fight where frazier was fighting a bigger, stronger, more durable opponent...but frazier took him apart with fast sharp left hooks, and literally ripped open his eye socket. I see Frazier's speed, technique, straight punches finding their mark often on jeffries, and frazier will be the busier of the two on the inside. I don't see jeffries physical strength mauling frazier on the inside getting him anywhere..other than temporarly preventing frazier from giving him a good licking. jeffries's face will be completely ripped open by the 10th round from shark frazier left hooks. Jeffries survives the distance but loses a one sided decision.
I got Jeffries in this one. He had the means to stay away, and the power to put him down. However I only have a prime Jeffries, who was only beginning to move around less, and sit on his punches more.
Personally, I don't think he could stay away from Frazier, nobody could. He would eventually find him.
OK. Fraziers workrate would be a problem for Jeffries over 15 rounds even though Jeffries would have no difficulty adapting to this distance. I also think that Fraziers crouch would be a serious problem for Jeffries as he was verry reliant on his body attack to break opponents down. Jeffries was basicaly a body puncher who never fully developed his head attack. I think that Jeffries would have been strong enough to force Frazier back and create punching room, which might be decisive. We have to question however whether his power would carry the authaurity of a Foreman punch. I dont care to call this fight with any certainty but I can guess at some of the important issues.
I see Frazier winning here by a late tko or dec. Frazier would be all over Jeffries from start to finish, Jeffries could stun Joe but he (imo) doesn't have Foreman type power so Joe would just keep coming and coming he would punish JJ to the body and head. I see a good fight with Fraziers superior work rate and tenacity being the difference, Frazier KO12!!
I find this fight very intriguing. I think Jeffries was a good attrition-type puncher -- it took a while, but he definitely busted people up. I don't think Tom Sharkey saw the best of Jeffries. It was very common knowledge, before Jeffries-Sharkey I, that both Jeffries hands were busted up. Read Pollalck's book, it was no secret. Jeffries-Sharkey II, Jeffries reaggrivated his left arm (dislocated in an earlier training accident) in the second round. As each was at their best, in 15, it's a very tough call, but I might pick a very tired Frazier to eeek through and out hustle Jeffries -- not a sure thing, though. Not sure about how it would go if they'd come along at the same time.
Although I agree that Frazier would not stop coming at Jeffries, I believe Jefferies ring movement is being underestimated. And once Jeffereis does get caught in a corner, he does have the power required for Frazier to give him respect distance wise. With Jefferies, Frazier has to worry about: 1. Catching Jim 2. Not getting beat up, once he does Against Ali, I think Frazier had to worry primarily about #1. However, Jeffereis in his prime could move around the ring better than Ali could post-exile. The fact that Jeffereis was so quick and so powerful, makes me give the W to Jim.
Do you think Jeffries uses the crouch in this fight? Will Jeffries had any difficulty reaching Frazier's body?
