Why was shane "old" when he fought Floyd but Bhop was "timeless" when beating Pavlik?

i agree, and on times that last great fight can be the greatest fight they had.

lets say ali had retired after foreman, there is a valid argument that it was his greatest night.

im not discrediting his victory vs odlh, im just stating that i think his victory vs margo was better.

It is a bit of a catch-22 when you fight an old(in ring years) fighter.

If you win..... well, you should have won, he's old or shot, etc.

If you lose..... you got beaten by an old man.

It may or may not be unfair, (because there is something to be said for an aged fighters skills deteriorating) but it is what it is.

Because Floyd wouldn't get credit if he went back in a time portal and beat a prime Ali! Haterz will be haterz. They hated on Roy Jones Jr before Floyd and plenty of fighters before that.

Floyd won't get credit when he kicks Manny's ass either. Believe that!

Is it really that hard of a concept that winning fighters usually get compliments and losing fighters get dissed? You don't call someone timeless that loses 11 rounds and you don't call someone old after winning 11 rounds either.

Shane Mosley relied his whole career on speed and athleticism, wereas Hopkins relied on ring smarts, technique. At 38 Mosley's physical attributes declined and even though still faster than most, he is no match for Mayweather or Pacquiao.

PAvlik is no Floyd. If anyone who is old it's pavlik. He fight's like an old man, kid is like slow mo. It's not so much age but the atheleticism and speed difference is night and day between Pav vs BHO and Mosley vs Margarito. Flloy is fast.. fast he can do alot more stuff than margarito could do on Mosley.

Shane is called old because he lost.

He was hailed and celebrated after defeating Margacheato in spectacular fashion.

We talk about Floyd. But really what about Shane. He has seen it and heard it too.

It's funny what a year can change. From hero to yesterdays news in less than 40 minutes.Imagine if he had won.Round two nearly set the world on fire.

The bottom line is Floyd is 33 and SHane is 38. (not a huge difference in age).

Before the fight, analysts were divided on who would triumph. Before Floyd even signed to fight the then #3 ranked P4p fighter, everyone from Mosley to ESPN's Brain Kenny was calling for Floyd to step up and fight an "elite" welterweight in Mosley.

Floyd takes up the challenge when talks with the #1 P4P fighter fall through. Floyd said before the fight he wouldn't get any credit when he won (thus defeating the lineal welterweight champion) and guess what? Many critics didn't give him credit for easily outpointing Shane. It was.. oh Shane got old. Same crap different day.

Couple of points here. Firstly, I for one think Mosely's win over margarito flattered him a bit. I thought this at the time and I'm not just saying it in reflection but, I thought Margarito clearly looked preoccupied during the Mosely fight. I think getting caught right before entering the ring affected him.

Secondly Mosely hadn't fought in over 15 months. In that space of time most top level fighters would have 2-4 fights. This may have affected his sharpness, and not only that, it is possible he 'got old' in those 15months. Without him fighting during that time how was anyone to know if he was aging?

Thirdly, Mosely had been training for almost 6 months flat out, it is possible he burnt himself out in the gym.

I'm not saying this is the case, I'm just saying these are possibilities.

Regardless, I think Mayweather beats him in almost any situation as Shane has always had problems with people who can time him and neutralise his speed. Either way though it's an impressive victory for Mayweather who at the age of 33 is no spring chicken himself.

It's the double standard. Fighters are always regarded as bad once Floyd outclasses them.

Exactly, Mosley is not prime, but still good enough to beat most top 147 and 154 fighters. Mosley fail short the same way he did against Winky and Forrest....couldn't adjust after game plan A failed.

Mosley is turning 39 in less than 2 months. The age difference is huge. At 32 FMJ is at his peak or slightly past it, while Mosley is at the very end of his career. Also take into concideration the class of opponents and wars he had been in over the years. DeLa Hoya, Wright, Forrest twice each at their peak. Mayorga, Margarito, Cotto, Collazo, Vargas.

Name the fighters in boxing history who are anywhere near there peak at 38 . I want the ones that have taken on all-comers and tested themselves! QUICK should be easy .
