Interesting views guys, but I want to bring scientific reason and evidence into the frame more.

i been doin this workout for 5 years atleast, i've never found a science behind it, but i also never been hindered by it at all. I find to to be like getting a callace, whether mental or physical i don't care, it works and doesn't hurt. In return i have never been hurt with a bodyshot. It's kind of like a muy tai athletes kick a tree, using metal piping and rolling it on their shins and kendo sticks. Science wise, its gonna be the same kind of debate with variable facts like Pac and PBF lol, you cant say who is right, you can just have an opinion.

Are you trying to compare the deadening of nerves and hardening of the bone of the shin to taking shots to internal organs?

You can drop as many medicine balls on yourself as you like, if somebody smacks you in the right place, liver, kidneys, floating ribs for example it's gonna hurt and possibly end the fight or training.

lol you can say that about any body part, fighters chew gum and hit their nose and chins before fights bro, there's still a brain in there and if you catch one on the button its lights out. So like i said be it mental or physical it works, no?

I think its mental. A well timed isometric contraction to absorb a blow- thats it.

    This. ^^

Plus, I like incorporating all types of variety into my workouts. I can drop the medicine ball on my abs when I've blown my gasket doing flutter kicks and regular sit-ups/crunches. To me, it gives me the ability to push that much further on the abdominal muscles to hopefully increase the intensity in which strengthens the muscle from the progressive overload.

Wish I could offer you hard science but I can only speak from my own experience.

Hahaha, it's only happened to me once, and really, after that, I felt sick when I tried to eat afterwards.
So maybe I should try that.

Traditionally in muay boran (muay thai) it is the bananna tree that was famous for being used by practisioners, as a sort of heavy bag. bananna trees have a soft very hay like bark to them with quite a few layers so its not as torturous as it sounds.

a heavy bag is all you need, continuous impact on a fairly soft object that will conform to the shape of the bone your striking it with rather than vice versa (ouch), which is what will more likely happen from trying to harden your shins using impact with solid objects as you will create weaknesses throughout the bone and one day the weakness will probably be exposed.

however this principle does not apply to organs, there is your rib cage, but i dont believe by densening the ribs you would get the desired effect and like some have mentioned the floating ribs are always going to be a weakness.

i remember reading somewhere that when the organs have recieved any sort of impact often there is actual damage that the body has to take time away from recoving from training properly to repair the damage done to the organs, thus slowing overall recovery from training aswell as weakening the immune system, think i recall it being something i read from Ross Enemaits news letter archives.

Half of you just need to grow a set and start being pounded with the ball. You all know in your heads that you would do it if it didn't hurt.
