I was trying to get a career set I fancied and I've narrowed it down to Spinks and Fenech. I have seen some fights and clips from both and I like both of there different styles. However I was favoring Fenech due to his general more crowd pleasing style. Don't get me wrong I appreciate Spink's skills but I felt he could be in some more boring fights and while I love boxing if I'm spending money I want to be entertained a lot. The only thing I am worried about is that Fenech will just dominate evreyone except the people he loses to. The fights I've seen him in he destroys his opponents with punches in bunches. I have Nigel benn's set and he just destroys so many of his opponents in non-competitive fights its a bit annoying. Wjo would you suggest?

    Thanks

    Oooh, tough one. :think

Not sure, it'd be up to your personal preference in the end I suppose. You seem to be leaning towards Fenech.

Fenech/Marcos Villasana was more competitive then Fenech's usual fare, Villasana had a granite chin, the McCall of the lower weights. That went 12 and was a good scrap.

I think Fenech broke one or both of his hands on Marcos Villasana's iron head.

Sounds like a win/win to me. But I think you're correct in that you'd see a lot of the same with Fenech (even in his loses). Here's a vote for Spinks (by a narrow margin). Spinks got some guys out of there with one punch power. In his distance fights he showed trememndous savvy and boxing abillity. I think you'd see a lot of technique with Spinks, but again, he's a devastating puncher also. My vote is for Spinks. Enjoy either way.

OH! For a second I thought you might be asking which one was better/greater. I was about to laugh.

You'll see a lot more versatility from Spinks. Greater diversity in both his tactics and the nature of his fights. The highlight reel KO's don't hurt, either.

You can't go wrong with either. Spinks most underrated fight is Lopez IMO, a bit of a sleeper and Fenech said his greatest ever win was Callejas and it's a good hard dirty fight.

While we're on the subject here, I might be looking to get ahold of Fenech's fights with Jerome Coffee and Miguel Francia, which I either never saw or don't remember seeing. Can anyone who's seen those fights tell me how those went?

This is tough,Spinks was better and more versatile fighter, but boy Finech had some great fights not many guys fought wars like this guy,you should enjoy both,Spinks was quite the devastating puncher though his highlights of viscious ko's stand with Tyson and Hearns.

I saw the Francia fight years ago at my local pub.

From memory it was on the undercard of another fight in Australia (a Waters brother from memory) and was only a warm up fight for the Nelson rematch.

Fenech won every round but I remember he got slightly stunned, brazenly waltzing in a couple of times as he clearly had no respect for Francia.Actually Fenech's over confidence and sloppy defense really gave me some concern going into the Nelson rematch as he was fairly easy to hit for Francia, who fortunately possessed little power but I knew Nelson certainly did.

All in all a pretty ordinary Fenech display but worth a look as it was probably the first signs of his demise as a fighter becoming readily apparent.
