Froch was more of a threat than RJJ, Manfredo, Evans Ashira all recent and around the time Froch had been calling Calzaghe out.

The only fighters on Calzaghe's resume that are more of a threat (or equal to) than Froch are.

Hopkins and Kessler.

calzaghe owned the SMW division and anyone who says different is being naive.

but he got suckered into the frank warren way of fighting and thats why he never tested himself.

all he needed to do if he wanted to find out how good he was - was do what hatton anf khan did - **** off warren and make himself known in the states.

if hatton can have 4 fights with US coverage to get floyd and pacman fights how hard to you think it would've been for a welshman who had more talent thatn hatton to get to number one contender for jones or hopkins when they ruled poor divisions?

 

well bearing in mind that he fough the linear light heavy champ and p4p #4 instead, I thnk he gets a pass for it. Come on, I like Froch but he did not become a factor on the world scene until after Calzaghe was retired and certainly wasn't one when he held super mddle belts. Froch hadn't fought above British & commonwealth level at the time and the fact that he had called Calzaghe out does nothing to change that.

Thats right, only some cant see it.
Froch gets credit for what he has done now, but at the time hadnt done anything and on the other thread of Joes 10 best wins, all those fighters had done more than Froch at that time.
When Joe fought Roy, many people still picked Jones to win including Froch, Hopkins and Haye. Froch had only just won a world title, so Jones was still a bigger name.
Manfredo was made to help build Joes name for a future Hopkins fight
At the time Joe fought Ashira, who was a pointless match, Froch hadnt even fought Magee and had, had only 17 fights. It would have been a more pointless fight then Ashira was at that time and given Joe no more credibility than Ashira. Im glad it didnt happen as it could have ruined Frochs career before it got started.

 

Why should Joe have gone to the States at that time? He was champ and ruler of the SMW division. Most of the harder fights were in Europe.
But what SMWs would you expect him to go to America and fight? He beat Mitchell, Sheika and Brewer and Echoles and Tate pulled out against him

 

Yeah, when you post from memory sometimes you get the time wrong ... should have looked .. seven years is a long time - just remembered there wasn't much time remaining in the round. Parris could have and should have let him go after the stumble. He would have done that for Calzaghe - without any doubt - and we both know that. Can you imagine the uproar if Joe had been staggered with 26 seconds left in the 2nd round and Parris had stopped the fight as he bounced off the ropes still defending himself?

The first knockdown was one of momentum not a damaging punch - Calz threw moving backwards both throwing at the same time - Joe's got there a split second quicker. Mitchell's forward momentum was as much a factor in the knockdown as Joe's punch. The fight had moved on for 45 seconds without either knockdown being a factor in the fight any longer. Joe was getting the better of the exchanges but both were throwing. Joe gives Parris a nice glance at 38 seconds remaining - to no avail - and a still punching still moving forward Mitchell finally catches a left - as he throws the left - and stumbles backward at around 26 - bounces off the ropes - and Parris intercedes to call it off.

Mitchell deserved to see if he would survive the last 25 and (as it is the light punching Calz) it certainly isn't a certainty that Mitchell would have gone down again. Joe misses as much as he lands. This wasn't Manfredo - that was a completely different type of absurd stoppage. This was a man still punching, moving forward, and in a brawl. This was a title fight, away, he goes down once on a flash, and gets stopped on his feet while defending himself.

That kind of stoppage is unnecessary. If he had fallen he would have had a count and time to recover. The round would have ENDED. That kind of **** is ridiculous. It happens far too often in Calz' fights.



The Sheika fight was another ridiculous hometown stoppage. In both fights these weren't over matched regional bums .. they were competitive fighters - they deserved better than they received. They deserved an even playing field. They didn't get one. Both hooks were far TOO quick.

And what has Hopkins got to do with what I said, u ***zaghis were the ones getting over excited when Calzaghe was having homosexual thoughts in the ring vs Calzaghe.

Dirrell fights on the back foot, Calzaghe fights toe to toe, would have been a good fight given that Froch has a solid chin, and Calzaghe has weak power.

 

If Calzaghe was black he'd be a legend right about now. **** even Marciano gets very little cred from the black community.

Sad really to think this happens in today's world but what are you gonna do? Haters be hatin'.......

 

If he actually accomplished anything during his career he might be a legend by now.

Marciano's gets the credit he deserves. He's considered an ATG but based on the guys he had available to fight he is rated just about right by most. His resume was incalculably better than Joe's but not as good as the first 5 years of Ali's resume.

 

Guy makes Malignaggi look like Tyson. :fight I have a modicum of respect for his accomplishments, a little more respect for his tenacity but zero respect for his punching technique.
