Manny Pacquiao should not be aloud to fight for a 154 title..........

Cos it is for a 154 title! you cant force someone to come in at 150 for a 154 title!

Who is being forced? Pacquiao is not a mandatory challenger for a LMW title, he can't even force anyone to fight him, nevermind anything else.

 

I agree Manny Pacquiao should not be aloud tho I think Pacquiao can silently fight for the 154 title... but not aloud...

 

Jr middleweight is from 148-154, so any weight in that range is fine. 154 is simply the maximum weight a fighter can weigh for that division. There is nothing wrong about fighting for the jr middleweight title and not weighing 154 as long as you are still a jr middleweight. 154 is just the maximum you can weigh for that division. Now your views on catchweights should be a whole different thread, but two guys fighting at 150 for the jr middleweight title is absolutely fine and I don't know why anyone would thing otherwise.

 

I agree, if both come in at 150 it is fine. what isnt fine is telling margo he cant come in at 151, 152, 153 or 154.

Its fine if both choose to come in at 150. But its not fair if a contract stipulates 150 as a maximum weight and shouldnt be sanctioned as a title fight

Only if he chooses to agree to it. Margarito isn't champion, Pacquiao is not his mandatory, no-one can force him to do anything. Likewise no-one is forcing Pacquiao either.

 

I sort of agree with both sides of this argument. If Margarito agrees to do so then it should be fine. Margarito's last fight was at 154 but most of his fights before that were at 147 so fghting at 150 should be little trouble for him. But I also understand people not happy with Pacquaio's demands for catchweights. If the fight is for the jr middleweight tilte than Pac can come in at 150 if he wants but let Margarito weight anywhere from 148-154 that he wants to.

 

I disagree. When people call it the 154 pound title they are simply referring to the maximum weight. You could just as easily call it the 148-154 pound title. As long as both fighters are in that range they are jr middleweights and can fight for that title. The catchweight is a seperate stipulation from the title sanctioning in this fight. If Margarito was a mandatory then it would be a different story. I don't like the idea of this fight being at a catchweight. If Pacquio wants to fight for the jr middleweight title than let Margarito be any size jr middleweight he wants to. But there is absolutely no reason this fight shouldn't be for a belt if both guys agree to the catchweight. But liking it or not is a different story.
