Max Baer was excellent in The Prizefighter And The Lady, with Myrna Loy...He sang and danced well, and his great charisma showed through...What a personality he had!
Since you mentioned Max, bb, Maxie Rosenbloom jumped to mind. Audiences loved him for years in films as the punch drunk comic foil.
Lol maybe but I think his role in Ali should've been more significant. He was playing as Joe Frazier so he should've been in more scenes.
Brief though his appearance was -- next to Jamie Foxx as Bundini -- Toney made the strongest impression in the film.
You really think so? Not disagreeing with you but I find that statement interesting. Out of all of Ali's nemesis'(Where was Norton & the other Frazier fights? That film was so lacking lol), I think Toney did the best.
Only talking about the actors that left the strongest impression in the film, t, not who was omitted from the story. Though Toney had little dialogue, the life-experience in his face said volumes.
For sure J.G., Maxie Rosenbloom had a niche carved out in those "B" comedies that he did so well. His move to cinema comedies was a natural extension of his rather eccentrric personna as a fighter..I mean, nicknamed "Slapsie"..not really wanting to hurt an opponent..fighting so many badasses and having so many fights..he was a remarkable figure, and I wish SOMEONE had the presence of mind to film at least ONE fight of his.
I remember that. I actually like this one: "The dolphin has to wait.... something I have to take care off!" [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8ufwjo20Do[/ame]
That particular scene in 'Dead Man's Shoes' was bloody brill. Stretch was good the entire film through but got massively overshadowed by Paddy Considine.
