It is a fight at the 154 limit, if pac wants to weigh 150, fine. but he shouldnt ask margo to weigh 150. if margo chooses to weigh 154 it should be allowed.

catchweight title fights are a joke.

Although I agree....I think PAC should fight at 154 given the fact he's accustomed to taking these risks and shown incredible amounts of success....Buuut, Marg is a 147 lbs fighter himself. A catch weight would also be in his favor. Manny isn't a natural WW. Jr Welter weight is comfortably Manny's ideal division.

Manny also isn't accustomed to "catch weights". This would be his 2nd...his first with Miguel. I don't mind catch weights at all. I just don't see why PAC would just go ahead and do it at 154 based on his previous performances in moving up 8 divisions.

154 favors Marg for sure simply b/c marg is a big WW already and Manny is a very small WW. So I expected Mannys team to ask for a catch weight again.

So if Margarito and Pacquiao both choose to sign a contract for a fight where they will both weigh in at 150lbs, that's ok? Their choice, right?

Margarito obviously won't have a choice will he? This is most likely be his last big money fight, he knows after what he did he shouldn't be fighting for a
****ing world title, of course he'll sign and take the money.

This is going to be a light middleweight title fight. the light middlweight class goes from 148-154. therefore each fighter fighter should be allowed weigh anywhere in that range. I think its BS if the fight is at 150. If pac wants to weigh 150 fine, but Margarito should be allowed weigh 154 if he pleases.

Dude.......you do realize that "catch weights" are COMMON!:rofl Olympic style testing, not so much:roll:. Manny asking for his 2nd catch weight in his entire career isn't really a big deal. Floyd's demands are not comparable to a catch weight fight in boxing.

Pac moving up in weight makes gives this request even more validity....Had this been two career long Welters going at it and they requested catch weights for nothing I'd understand the fuss. But that ain't the situation here.

That sounds like a choice to me...

But, even if what you say is true, how would we 'force' Margarito to come to the weigh-in at 154lbs? What rule would you introduce to stop him choosing to weigh-in at 150lbs?

WBC are not stopping him weighing 154. If he comes in at 150 it's because he has chosen to do so. If he signs a contract to come in at 150 it's because he chooses to do so.

I don't understand how anyone thinks that such a choice can be outlawed.

Floyds demands regardless of the intention WILL help clean up boxing... regardless of if those are his intentions or not

    on to manny

    hes not ranked at 154

hes walking straight into a title fight that is tailor made for him to win

    that is a joke

if 154 is too big for you....DONT GO THERE

You're simply playing a game of semantics. Margo has no leverage here. He can't afford to turn down this fight. If it were his choice, he would never fight at a catchweight. However, he doesn't have much of a choice here. They'll demand a catchweight and insert a large financial penalty if he goes overweight. If Margo balks at this, he'll cost himself millions, and could toil in obscurity for the rest of his career.

He's fought one catchweight thus far. Why are there so many angry Floyd fans starting threads about Pacquiao?

Everyone's playing a game of ****ing semantics, mine are just more honest and less convoluted than most others.

Would you be ok with the fight at 147lbs? If so, why do you actually care if it is three pounds higher? Because it's tarnishes the honourable reputation of one of our myriad of world sanctioing bodies?

Same question that no-one has yet answered: how do you actually stop this happening. What rule will you enforce that prevents Margarito coming to the weigh-in at 150lbs?

This is really nothing new......with regards to a top fighter getting a crack at a title in a completely new weight division based on his dominance moving up.

Ray Robinson fought Joey maxim at Light HW when Ray never had a fight at Lt HW before. Yet he got the shot and he was given a ranking to justify the fight. And that's not the only case where we've seen this kind of situation take place.

154 may NOT be too big for Manny. It takes time to get acclimated to a new division which is why catch weights are common. Some fighters are testing the waters, some are looking to gradually move up or down to the new weight and some are just for making a MEANINGFUL fight between a champion at a lower weight class vs anther champion at a higher....so they meet somewhere in the middle.

Yep one catchweight fight and we get threads whining like bitches as if there's been 40 catchweight fights.
