So you'd be fine if he didn't sign a written contract, but there was an 'understanding' that he would weigh-in at 150lbs?

This is what we're dealing with. If a fighter wants to make this deal I'm not really seeing how you're going to stop them.

You keep saying they shouldn't be forced into it, but they are already not forced. They choose to make an agreement that they perceive as being in their advantage and you can't stop them from doing so.

I could give a **** less who fights at whatever catchweight they want, but don't let them fight for a title over a catchweight, that is absurd.

You don't... you just send them a signal by not ordering the fight.

    That simple. Dollar vote.

So when they come to the weigh-in, how much below the maximum weight can they weigh before your sanctioning body steps in and calls the title fight off?

Would Mayweather v Judah still have been a title fight?

Whatever they want below the maximum weight.

If a featherweight feels he can beat a lightweight in his weight class, who gives a **** what he weighs as long as he never goes over the limit into the next weight class.

If mayweather wanted to fight for the MW title and weigh 150 when he did it, good on him.

When cotto defended vs clottey, he came in at 146, he didnt make clottey come in at 146, cos it was a ww fight, as such clottey excercised his right and came in at 147.

when floyd fought odlh, he came in light, but he didnt ask odlh to do so also.

it aint about understanding, if pac chooses to weigh at 150, and margo chooses to weigh at 153 then that is their choice.

Right. But once again you're missing the point.

Here we have a situation where it seems like both fighters want to choose to come in at 150lbs. Apparantly you don't think that should be allowed. How are you going to stop it?

So if Margarito wants to come in at 150lbs that's fine?

you dont, the limit is 154, as long as it is within that limit then whatever.

but you dont penalise a fighter if he comes in at 154 for a 154 title fight.

im guessing this contract has weight penalties. that is what is wrong.

Yea this is some bull****! If boxing can get away from being run by a handful of promoters then it will be much better. It's like 5 guys who have a lock on the whole boxing industry and if they want to know whats wrong with boxing they only need to look in the mirror.

So it's ok if Margarito and Pacquiao agree to weigh-in at 150lbs as long as there is not penalty specified in a written contract for the not doing so?

Don't really see what that affects. Still nothing to stop them from reaching a verbal understanding to that effect, with detterent of an 'injury pull out' if the weight isn't made.
